Can I connect Nest Cam Outdoor Battery to my Verizon hotspot?

I provide trap/neuter/return services and often need to monitor cats near my traps via live video feed from about 20-50 feet away where wifi isn’t available, but I have Verizon cell service. Can the Nest Cam Outdoor (battery) be connected to a mobile hotspot and show a live feed? Or does it need to be connected only to a wifi network?

All models of Nest Cam connect to Wifi. Google would recommend you use a fixed Wifi network, but there's no reason it shouldn't work with a Wifi hotspot.

Do you know for sure? Does Nest somewhere say that hotspots are ok? My issue is that the Arlo/Netgear community also thought there was no reason why the Arlo Essential wouldn’t work with a hotspot since it connects directly to WiFi without requiring the base station (like other Arlo cameras do), but when I purchased it I discovered that no, cell phone hotspots are prohibited and the camera can’t connect. So I am stuck with a camera I can’t use for its intended purpose (I didn’t want to pay a restocking fee). I’ve reached out to Nest support on Twitter but haven’t heard an official answer yet.

You won't find that as a recommendation anywhere, as they're designed to be connected to a fixed Wifi network in a home. However, users have reported success using Wifi hotspots with Nest Cams.

  1. Turn on the Wifi hotspot.
  2. Connect your phone or tablet to the Wifi hotspot.
  3. Proceed to setup your camera and connect it to the Wifi hotspot.

I didn't purchase a Nest Cam Battery Outdoor because of the information provided by the product expert advising me that it wouldn't work as needed.

@megmo

It seems that this thread may be resolved, as you chose not to move forward with the Nest Cam (battery). We'll leave this topic open for another 24 hours in case there are any follow-up questions or comments.

Best regards,
