Can't factory reset wired near doorbell 1st gen

However, I'm having difficulty resetting mine. I attempted the two button reset after attempting a normal reset by disconnecting wires for 10 seconds. The two button reset (using a paper clip and pressing the button) doesn't seem to do anything but shut the doorbell off temporarily.

My issue is that the doorbell is no longer functioning then the button is pressed. The camera shuts off and often there is no tone, inside or out. Any ideas?

I don't know why your doorbell is not resetting.

However, is your doorbell going offline for a minute whenever the doorbell button is pressed? This is a known defect caused by the failure of the small internal battery in the Nest Hello Doorbell. (See this very long thread with 1,000+ replies:
https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Nest-Hello-Doorbell-cuts-out-when-butto....) It's happened to all 3 of our Nest Hellos. Google Nest says they "cannot" replace such doorbells if they are past the 1-year warranty.

The workaround we've used is to turn off the "Indoor chime" option; while our indoor doorbell chime no longer rings, the doorbells no longer go offline. We then use the "Visitor announcements" option to get notifications on our Nest Hubs (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7672451).

Some customers have tried prying open their doorbell to replace the internal battery; see this iFixit post: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Nest+Hello+Battery+Replacement/131729
