Can wired Nest doorbell gen 2 work with a separate power supply? (existing doorbell wire is broken)

Hi all

The wiring somewhere between the old doorbell button and the existing old school doorbell is broken somewhere inside the walls. Can the 'wired' gen 2 doorbell work 'wirelessly' if I install its own 16v transformer inside the wall by the front door?

I'd wire the chime connector to the existing doorbell normally... can it receive the 'command' from the button / camera to ring the doorbell wirelessly?

Thanks for posting in the community! I understand that you want to install a Doorbell 2Sec Gen with the old wired installation. I'm happy to help.

As they are different generations, therefore they are not compatible at the moment. You can visit this website to check Nest doorbell compatibility and this article, you can take a look how you need to install the Nest wired 2Sec Gen Install Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen)

Let me know if you have other questions.
