Cannot setup Nest Doorbell on Telstra Smart Modem

I have multiple devices set up on this network, including nest hubs and cameras.

When I set up the nest doorbell (battery) It just says "try moving closer to your Nest Doorbell" I've tried the setup a few feet away, and directly adjacent to the phone/modem.

I've done a factory reset (holding reset button for 20 seconds) and also established a 2.4Ghz only network as I read these don't work on 5Ghz networks.

Same error each time.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this, as I can imagine it has been an inconvenience. I would love to look into this further for you. When you were factory resetting your camera, did it fully get reset? If you saw no change, try to hold the button down for 30 seconds.

Best regards,
Brad

Thanks Brad, held it down for 30 seconds until the chime played, and the light reset and went through the white>pulsing blue sequence. No change. Will try at a different home and see if this produces a better result

Hi everyone,

@jsm2090 thanks for getting back to us and for sharing with us what you've done. I'm dropping by to ensure that everything is covered here. Let's dig deeper into this.

Give these steps a try:

  • Make sure that you removed your Nest Doorbell from your Google Home app before adding it back.
  • Your mobile device and Nest Doorbell should be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • This is a link on how to properly reset your Nest Doorbell (battery).
  • Also, this link will let you know what the status light means for your Nest Doorbell (battery).

Let us know how it goes.

I appreciate the help, Brad.

Regards,

Emerson

Hey jsm2090,

How’s it going? Did you get a chance to try the steps shared by Emerson? If so, how did it go? Let us know if you need more help.

Thanks for the help, Brad and Emerson.

Best,

JT

Thanks for the follow up JT; I've tried it on another network at another property, and it sets up and works perfectly. I'm guessing there are some wireless network issues that are preventing it from syncing with the Google Home app.
