Change WiFi on Nest Outdoor Cam

I have had this camera for two years. Once in a while is goes off line. Because it is far from my router and line of site includes my HVAC Air Handler, I added a WiFi extender to improve the signal strength. Best practices suggest a new SSID, usually the old SSID with _Ext added to the name, which I agree with. The extender provides excellent signal with my other devices as a test.

I was discussed when using the Google/nest iOS app it wanted me to scan the barcode on the camera or key in the 6 digit code on the camera. Really?  I have to get out a ladder in this arizona heat and remove the camera from the mount to find this info!?!?

After doing that, the app has me perform the same operations of installing a new camera including plugging it in, enter the code, upon which is finds the serial number of the camera, which I select. It then looks for WiFi networks AND NEVER FINDS ANY… IT JUST KEEPS LOOKING FOR NETWORKS. It does not even find the network it used to be on. I aborted multiple times and repeated the process with the same results. I then REMOVED the camera from the app and went through the process of installing a new camera with same results, except now when I abort I have no camera at all!

What do I do now?

Tom

Einstein’s definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over expecting a different result. This is insane. I did the same thing, outlined above, and this time it worked. My camera is back and connected via the WiFi Extender.

There has to be better system administration for Google Nest products. I have 10 Nest Protect Smoke detectors and my experience changing WiFi network names on them was insane as well.

@TomS - I have the exact same issue with 3 Nest Outdoor Cams, after changing to new wifi with new SSID, there is no way of connecting my Nest Outdoor Cams, and as you, I experience I can also not connect to the old router/SSID...the installation process is painful and leads nowhere. I must admit I am about to give up on NEST and buy something else. My Nest Indoor Cam installs fine on the new network...

Google/Nest is like a drug, once you start it is hard to quit. I have two homes, two thermostats, 10 smoke detectors and 3 cameras, all under one app. I had to migrate from nest to Google which was irritating. I also have similar Smart Home products from Amazon and Insteon; all of them trap you into their drug.

If you read the posts, you would see the problem was resolved. The general feeling is that there must be a better way. System Administration is very poor at Nest/Google. Lots of marketing words, very short on technology words.
