Change the Nest doorbell (battery) announcements

Na_Mi

Hi (first post here)

I have installed a doorbell (battery) in my home, and would like to use the visitor announcements (I do not have a separate wired chime). I cannot figure out how to change what the announcement is though. In essence I want my speakers to 'ding dong' but I don't need my speakers to say 'someones at the front door doorbell'. Firstly, if you hear the ding dong, that clearly means someone is at the door, the announcement is redundant. Secondly, someone is not at the 'front door doorbell', they are just at the front door. This really irritates me and I can't explain why.

I would like to change the announcement if possible, or at least flag that the ability to edit this is a critical feature which is missing.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hi Ashepherdson

Really appreciate the response. You're dead right about the name of the device. I've changed this now. This was approx 80% of my annoyance. So thanks very much for this.

As for the rest of your response, seems like the options for the announcements are either to completely turn off announcements (ie both the 'dingdong' and the verbal announcement of someone's at the door' or to have both on.

Am I getting this right?

Thanks, mate

For the wording it's based on what you called it.. for example mine says "someone's at the front door " because I named the nest Front Door , not front door doorbell.  If you wish to turn off voice notification, go into Google home, camera, settings, turn off voice notification.  Hope this helps!

I was under the impression that it would only turn off voice announcements but that the push notifications would still occur... Will have to try on mine and get back to you!

Sorry mate, you're exactly right that turning off announcements will maintain push notifications to my phone. I guess what I want is to still receive a bell or noise on my nest hub, but without the additional 'someone is at the door' announcement.

I think I know the answer now, that it can't be done. But this is definitely a feature I would be interested in seeing in the future.

Appreciate the help mate.
