Changing Alert sound when doorbell pressed doesn't work

Hi, I have a Google doorbell (battery), all set up. On my own so difficult to test. I was away from house but luckily on my phone doing something else when I saw a notification from my doorbell (didn't hear a beep or anything) someone had pressed it. I quickly opened the Google Home app and was able to speak to the postman.

I've since found the doorbell pressed sound option in App Settings (phone is an Android Redmi Note 8 Pro) but not been able to change it for a louder sound. I've tested it at home and when I press it I think this quiet sound goes off on phone.

Can anyone explain to change to a loud music sound please.

Hi jettamc,

Thanks for reaching out to us. To change the alert sound for your Google doorbell (battery) to a louder sound, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app on your Android device (Redmi Note 8 Pro).
  2. Tap on the doorbell device that you want to adjust the alert sound for. It should be listed among your devices in the app.
  3. Once you've selected the doorbell device, tap on the Settings icon (usually represented by a gear or three dots) in the top-right corner of the screen.
  4. Scroll down to find the "Doorbell pressed sound" option. Tap on it to access the available sound options.
  5. Choose a different sound from the provided options. Look for a sound that is louder or more attention-grabbing, such as a music sound or a custom ringtone that you have set for notifications on your device.
  6. After selecting the desired sound, exit the settings and test the doorbell by pressing it or having someone else press it to verify that the new alert sound is functioning as expected.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe

Thanks for your suggestion. Have tried your it but there is no Doorbell pressed sound option under the Settings. I have attached a screenshot of what my Settings options are.

Sorry not sure how I attach a screenshot so I'm listing the options:-

General

  . Device information

  . Notifications

Device features

  . Battery

  . Events

  . Doorbell

  . Video

  . Audio

That's all.

Hi I have found an option with similat title. It's in my phone settings, Apps option, Manage Apps option, then choosing the Home app, choosing the Notifications option which says yes, and the last option on this page is 'Doorbell press notifications'. When I choose that I have 5 ptions :-

Show notifications which is on

Allow floating notifications which is on

Sound which shows as set to 'Light steps'

Vibration which is on

On the Lock Screen set to 'Show all notifications and their contents.

If I choose Sound option it comes to a screen headed as a Ringtone tab and I then choose Pre-installed ringtones it shows a list of Ringtones, one of which is Light steps. I then choose another (loud music one) and press Apply next to it and a window pops up headed Select tone asking me to Select this ringtone - Cancel or OK. I choose OK it says 'applied successfully' and goes back to the 5 options screen mentioned above.

But the sound option still says 'Light steps' and when I come out back to my phone lock screen and try bell again its still the same quiet tone, so hasn't changed anything.

Is this the right options to change it and why isn't it saving the amended one i'm choosing?

Hi @jettamc,

Thanks for posting and I'm sorry for the delay. Help is here!

You can change the theme or set a different chime sound in the Home app doorbell settings. In addition to standard doorbell tones, seasonal doorbell themes are available around some holidays.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Open the Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites or Devices.
  3. Tap and hold your Doorbell tile.
  4. Tap More > Settings >  Choose "Doorbell theme" and select the desired tones.

For more information on Nest doorbell settings, you can refer to this article: Nest camera or doorbell settings.

Let me know how that works!

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Hi, thanks for all the help given. Just so you know I've now managed to change it through the Home app on my phone, 'Doorbell pressed sound '. As per my message above which says it didn't work, I kept trying it just by choosing a different ringtone and choosing Apply as above and eventually it accepted it and changed it. Didn't do anything different on all the times it didn't work so don't know why it suddenly decided to store the new one. Anyway it's solved thanks and I'm not touching it again.

Thanks for your assistance.
