Constant clicking

DFX

When steaming video in the dark, camera keeps clicking over and over, about every 40 seconds. I know when the camera turns on night mode it clicks to apply filters for IR, but this keeps happening over and over despite no change in light source/brightness.

This is a major problem because I used it as a baby monitor, and it keeps clicking loudly when she's trying to sleep...

Seconded. The clicking through the night can be rather irritating and should’ve been made quieter by the folks at Google, knowing that it would be used inside homes.

Unfortunately the problem isn't properly resolved, rather a workaround.

When setting the camera to Always stay in Night mode, the camera doesn't keep clicking and turning the mode on and off. Problem with this solution is it stays in black and white even throughout the day which requires to go back and manually change the settings back every day.

Again not sure why this keeps happening despite no changes in lighting of a dark room where it keeps switching on and off.

@DFX

Have you tried to Restart your camera? If so, does the issue persist? Have you tried to Factory Reset your camera? Please let me know the results after trying. Just a fair warning, Factory Resetting the camera will make it 'like-new' so it would lose any sort of saved settings you have and would be essentially a new camera. What is good about this, is that if there is a setting, or something that is causing issues, a factory reset will do the trick to clear that out unless it is a major hardware issue.

Please let me know if you still need further assistance!

Best Regards,

Brad.

Hi there. I've already restarted, and factory reset the camera. If you have access to the Nest hardware team at Google, can you please confirm if this clicking is normal or not? There's no point in troubleshooting further if this is expected behaviour.

The click is normal to be heard when the camera switched to night mode, but the constant clicking which signifies a constant change back and forth from night mode to regular mode is not normal functioning at all. It should not change modes unless camera senses a change in lighting which there is not.

Resetting of the camera did not help . I have tried using the camera in different rooms as well to see if there is a unknown lighting/shadowing problem in 1 room...

@DFX is correct, this is not normal behavior if it's doing it all the time. Is it in a shaded, or mixed shade/sun area? That could be playing a role, or if its under a tree, that could also be throwing it off. Normally, I do not think this would be the case.

Best Regards,

Brad.
