Data usage too high help?

BirdsEye

The camera is wired, so records continuously, and is on the lowest possible quality setting, but still uses 30 gb/day which is WAY too much, especially if you want to add additional cameras. What can be done about this?

I’ll add that the camera is in a location with low events. If it was located where it would encounter a lot of events I assume the usage would be the same or worse.

Hi BirdsEye,

You can go into the camera settings / then 'Video' / then 'Video history' and set it to record just events and not 24/7 video history.

Hi BirdsEye,

Checking in — I just wanted to make sure if you’ve seen Cathal_S’s response. Let me know if you need anything else.

I appreciate your help, Cathal_S.

Thanks,

JT

Yes, I’ve seen the response and changed the setting but it only brings the usage down from approximately 10gb/day for 24/7 recording to 5gb/day for events only. Seems high for what you are getting. Too bad just can’t step down quality to not use so much data resources.

No. I think I have enough information and understanding of the problem. Even on the lowest quality they use too much data over the original nest cameras. It’s holding me back from purchasing more. I pay for the 24/7 recording but unless I want to pay overages I have to set as event based only.
