Daughter mischief

Hello everyone,

i have had a nest doorbell cam for a couple of years now and have had very little issues with the device. Lately at night my doorbell cam has been shutting off during the night, i suspect it is my daughter turning it off so i can't see when she comes home, but frankly i can't figure out how she would do it.  She doesn't have access into my nest account and just to be sure i switched my google password incase she did some how figure out how to get in. Help please

@Tkj80

How do you know your Google Nest Hello Doorbell is off at night? We've never had any of our cameras turn off. However, anyone who is a member of your Google Nest "household" (under Settings | Household in the Google Home app) can turn cameras on and off.

Because when i wake up the camera is turned off. Just coincidence, that they are mostly only the times when my daughter is out til late at night?  Funny thing she is not a member, i just checked again, i am the only person on the account

@Tkj80

That sounds really odd for your doorbell to just turn off.

Have you tried just rebooting your doorbell by briefly turning off the circuit that includes your doorbell?

How do you do that?

@Tkj80

If you know what electrical circuit includes your doorbell, turn off the circuit breaker for a minute and then turn it back on (unless you have some other critical devices on that circuit).

Hey AveryReid,

I’m sorry to hear that. Let’s see what’s going on — a few questions: what’s the status light of the doorbell? How far is the doorbell from the router? Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near the cameras? What Wi-Fi frequency band do you try to connect to (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz)? Also, were there any changes to your Wi-Fi network?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

JT

Hi, I’ve already been doing all of that troubleshooting and more over the phone for the past month. There are no issues on my end. It’s definitely a software issue with the Google home app. I even see a review on Amazon from 3 weeks ago saying their app worked well and then suddenly it stopped connecting. Seems like I’m not alone. I’m tired of troubleshooting the hardware and my speedy fast Internet when the common denominator is google’s mobile app.

I haven't replied because i haven't been able to turn it off and on to trouble shoot it.  Now i don't think it is my daughter, but something else. Often the camera will turn off at around 11 or 12 pm.  The next morning when i get up i have to turn it on again.

Thanks,

By shutting off, do you mean that the camera goes offline? If so, this sounds very similar to an issue that I was having. Google support then had me do a factory reset and I have not been able to reconnect my doorbell to the Google Home app since then. I now don't have a doorbell at all.
