Doorbell Install - Chime rings nonstop

Lordquas

Hello,

I'm going through the install steps of Doorbell (battery) in wired mode with an existing electric chime. As soon as I touch the second wire to the connection point on the back of the doorbell, it sets my chime to ring nonstop.

My chime is a short jingle like "ding dong la la" and when wires are connected it plays "di di di di di di..." nonstop until I remove the wire.

House built in 2016 so wiring and existing doorbell/chime are pretty new. There are 2 wires connecting to the doorbell.

I have tried reversing the wires and starting the setup process from the beginning. Doorbell works fine in battery mode.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Does your doorbell's transformers meet the requirements itemized here?

We have Nest Hello doorbells, but if the chime starts ringing constantly as soon as you touch the wires (and you're not accidentally holding down the doorbell's button while doing so), it does seem like something may be wrong with the doorbell itself.

I'll have to check the doorbell's transformer once I get a ladder.  Thanks

Hi  Lordquas, It sounds like your home might have an "electronic" doorbell which uses a speaker to make the ding dong sound as opposed to the older "mechanical" doorbell which uses a mechanical solenoid to actually strike a metal bar.

If you have an "electronic" chime then try going into the Google Home app into the setting and turn on the switch that says "electronic" chime and see if that fixes the problem.
