Doorbell battery setup doesn't start

Ptx

Hi all, I just bought the doorbell and tried to set it up in the Google home app. I click on setup new device, chose the home, go to setup different device and select my nest doorbell battery. I can scan the barcode or enter the code manually, but as soon as I click on next, the Google Home app goes back to the home screen without starting anything.

Reinstall the app, no change, cleared cache, no change. Setup a new home, no change.

All my other google home products are working fine.

Has anyone any ideas how I can start the setup process?

Hi EmptyNester, Bluetooth is always on because I use it every day. I tried your other idea as well and that helped to a certain point. I invited my daughter into my home group and she installed the doorbell that way. After the installation, she left the group and uninstalled the home app. Now I have the doorbell still in my group and can modify it. But now, the notification doesn't work correctly because I don't get event notifications. The ring button works fine.

I don't think that the problem is the doorbell as it works fine on other phones, I guess something is wrong with the home app or its settings as it doesn't even start the setup process and goes straight back to the home screen after scanning the device code.

I'll try to get in touch with the Google support and get it fully resolved.

Hi Ptx,

I'm and end user like you.  The only think I can think of is make sure that BLUETOOTH is turned ON on your phone.

The other thing you can try is to use another family/friend's phone and see if you can add it that way.

But honestly I think you need to contact Google and get a tech to help you with this.  Here is the link which will help you open a chat window: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Once you get it going please return here and let us know how it got solved.  It will not doubt help other people running into this.

Wow,,, that is great news that you got it a lot further.   I can't remember the setting in the Google Home app for NOTIFICATIONS because I don't use that app.  I'm still using the NEST app.

However, If you are on an iPhone check this setting:  Go to the phones SETTINGS then scroll down to NOTIFICATIONS and scroll way down the list until you find GOOGLE HOME. Then select it and make sure the notifications are turned on.   It might be that on YOUR phone it is defaulting to OFF because your phone was not used in the setup.

Let me know if that helps and if you can please select the ACCEPTED SOLUTION button on this thread as it might help other people with the same issue.

I'm using a Google pixel 4 which was working fine with everything from Google so far. I can't actually use the Nest app because when I tried to install the doorbell via nest app i get the message that I have to use the Google Home app. Same result if I try to scan the barcode with the nest app.

Even installed via my daughter's phone, I can't see or open the Google nest doorbell battery in the nest app.

Sorry for the confusion on that.  The Nest app will not work with the newer gen cameras like the one you have.  You can only use the Google Home app.  So if you go into the app and select the camera and then go into settings (probably a gear icon) do you see a selection for 'notifications'?   Make sure it is set to ON.

Hi there,

Just checking in to see how the conversation is going as there's been a lapse in activity on this thread.

Hi Brad,

I'm in contact with Google on Facebook (as all my other efforts to get in contact have failed) but in my experience, Google is very slow and in general not really interested if the problem effects only a small group of users.

The solution to use a different phone is the only workaround for me that works. I guess that means the problem is solved as good as possible.

Thank you all for the great help and especially for the quick response. 👍😄

I'm having the same issue. I have a Samsung S22+. When trying to set up the doorbell, The app drops me back to the home screen.

Hi Oxnerhome,  the first thing to confirm is that you are on the newest version of the Google Home app.  Otherwise maybe try doing what Ptx did to get it working and this is to install the app on  another phone to add the camera and the remove it.  Just make sure you use your gmail login and password on the other phone so it gets added to YOUR account.

FYI for anyone interested, I got the notifications working after setting up everything properly.

In regards to the installation, I can only get it working with a different phone on my account. It's not ideal but so far it's the only thing I can do that works.

I'm also in contact with Google, but everybody knows how long that can take 😉
