This has happened to two of our three Google Nest Hello Doorbells after they were past the 1-year warranty. We bought silicone "skins" on Amazon to cover the peeling shards. The internal battery has also failed on all three of our Nest Hellos, so we turned off the "Indoor chime" option (since doing so prevents the doorbell from going offline whenever the doorbell button is pressed), and we rely instead on "Visitor announcements" on our Nest Hubs. We live with the defects because the doorbells otherwise continue to work.
