Event history and continuous recording - Same bandwidth?

Hi,

Been reading above. I just wanted to ask does this mean with both Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus they use same upload bandwidth? (Assuming you're not using Google Home to view live)

i.e. I've been reading up on official NEST reddit and seen majority state that whilst camera is on:

News Aware Plus has ability for continuous recording and therefore it is continuous uploading.

News Aware is continuous recording and uploading bandwidth use same as News Aware Plus. Even though event clips only plan it still needs to upload to cloud constantly anyway for motion AI processing to create clips, as this processing is not done by the camera itself.

Is this correct?

Hi qapnguyen,

Thanks for visiting the Community. I’m sorry for the delayed response. Good question! The Nest camera (battery) must be connected to a power source to have 24/7 video history. If your camera is battery powered, it will only have event video history, even if you have a Nest Aware Plus subscription. 24/7 video history is not available for the Nest Doorbell (battery), even with optional wired installation.

If you’ve set your camera to record and save specific kinds of events in its video history, your camera will detect and process any important activity it detects, but will only save footage of events you’ve enabled to the cloud.

In terms of the internet bandwidth, as long as your WiFi meets the upload speed of 2 Mbps per camera, your Nest cameras won't have any issues on the video recording.

I hope that answers your question.

Thanks,

JT

Does setting Google Home to "Event History" capturing still utilise same bandwidth as if I chose to use "Continuous" recording i.e. It records continuous anyway as cloud must process motion AI.

Or "Event History" means the camera itself does motion AI processing before uploading therefore it uses bandwidth only when event happens.

If unsure, let me know.

Hi there,

Good question! Absolutely, your camera uses your home internet bandwidth to stream live video to the Nest service in the cloud. If your camera records video with 24/7 video history or event video history, it streams live video and uses bandwidth whenever it is turned on.

Have a look at this article and let us know if you need more help: Internet bandwidth and speed requirements for Nest cameras.

Best,

JT
