Events Triggered for Nothing

Mountaingirl

I continue to get notified of 'events' when nothing is happening. Sometimes there is rain or snow, sometimes there's nothing at all. I've turned off notifications as a result, which is a shame. Since we live in the mountains the camera isn't even looking at a street where it would pick up traffic, etc. Any suggestions?

This has been happening to me as well for many months.   One thing that helped me mostly resolve it.  I divided the screen into 6 different zone.  When I get the false alert I could then focus on what was causing the false trigger because I knew what zone it was happening in.   In my case a large cement pot with a plant was causing the problem by confusing the algorithm into thinking it was a person.  I moved the plant to another location and it almost completely eliminated the false alerts.

There is one more thing you can do to help Google fix these false alerts.  When you are watching the clip with the false alert you can hit the little "I" with the circle in the lower left corner.  Then you can give it a thumbs UP or DOWN letting them know it didn't detected the image properly.

Hope this helps.

Hi folks,

@Mountaingirl, thanks for posting in the Community. I wanted to check in and see if you still needed any help. Have you had a chance to review mdr2’s response above? If yes, how was it?

Also, please keep in mind that although the Nest cameras use advanced systems to recognize important motion activity, they may still detect uncontrollable events within the camera view as motion and cause a false event.

Things such as shadows that move fast and lights may be detected as motion. If the camera repeatedly detects shadows or light in the same area, like mdr2 mentioned, I’d also suggest using activity zones to reduce the number of camera alerts you get for that zone.

I appreciate the help, mdr2.

All the best,

Lance
