Getting notifications intermittently

Yuyu1

I'm not consistently getting event notifications.  Seems like there's no rhyme or reason - I'll get a notification (person seen) in the morning, and I won't get a notification of the same type of event (person seen) on that same camera in the afternoon - I'll just happen to discover it while looking at my activity.

I'm not sure if this is related, but I am also not getting notifications when my cameras are kicked offline. They're plugged in (even tho they're battery cams) and no other devices are using wifi except my cameras.

Hello @Yuyu1,

I understand that you are not consistently receiving event notifications for your cameras, with events like "person seen" being delivered sometimes but not others, and that you are not receiving alerts when your cameras go offline, even though they are plugged in. I am here to help you troubleshoot these issues and get your alerts working consistently.

First, let's confirm your notification settings are correctly configured for both event alerts and device status:

  • Verify Battery Cam Power Settings:

  • Even though your battery cameras are plugged in, check the Google Home app and go to your camera's settings. Look for Battery or Power settings and ensure it recognizes that it is wired or has continuous power. This can improve event processing reliability.
  • Check Notifications Settings for the Camera:

  • In the Google Home app:
  • Select your camera.
  • Tap Settings (gear icon) ---- Notifications.
  • Confirm that push notifications are toggled on.
  • Under Events, ensure that People is selected.
  • Review Home/Away Routines:

  • Check if your Home/Away Routines might be unintentionally silencing notifications when you are set to "Home." In the Google Home app, check your routines and confirm what happens to the cameras when the home status changes.
  • Confirm Offline Notifications are on:

  • The notification for a device going offline is typically a separate setting. In the Google Home app, tap your profile picture ---- Assistant settings ---- Notifications. Look for a setting related to device status or status changes and ensure it's enabled.

To provide you with the most specific troubleshooting for the connectivity and missed offline alerts, could you please answer a few questions?

  • What specific model of Nest Camera are you using?
  • What type of phone are you using (iOS or Android), and what is the operating system version?
  • When you view the recorded activity for the events you missed in the afternoon, do they show up correctly in the video history?

Please try confirming the settings in the first section, and provide the answers to the questions above. I look forward to your response so we can move toward a solution.

Regards,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

After chatting with a specialist yesterday it looks like my last option is an in-person factory reset.
