Google Cam/Floodlight comes on at will

Jerryc1976

For the life of me, I can’t understand what controls the floodlight.

I don’t want it ever coming on during daylight, for ANY event, but it continues to regardless.

I’m interested in it ONLY being activated by motion, between sunset and sunrise, and only staying on for a specified period of time once motion stops being detected. I have the timer set at 30 sec.

is that possible? I swear I’ve tried every setting and combination of settings but this morning, at 7:45AM, it was on again for who knows how long.

I’m using Google Home in the IOS platform, latest versions.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

Google can’t figure it out either ,,,, but we appreciate your continuing to buy Google. Have a Great Day.

That’s NOT the answer o was expecting but thanks.

Very strange s I’ve tried every setting I can think of but it still comes on in broad daylight and stays lit until I manually turn it off.

No rhyme or reason.

Also seems to be caused by an “update” as it was working fine previously.

Hello folks,

@Jerryc1976 thanks for reaching out and bringing this issue to our attention. Follow this link to set your floodlight's motion, motion sensitivity and daylight sensor settings. Let us know how it goes.

I appreciate the help, .

Regards,
Emerson

Thanks, but I’ve followed those recommendations to the letter multiple times.

I find them confusing but inaccurate. My floodlight comes on during bright sunlight regardless of the setting. And stays on until manually turned off in the app.

Frustrating that a simple setting of “daytime” can’t be an option.

Im still unresolved.

Hey everyone,

@TB22 we appreciate you taking your time uploading the screenshot of the settings of your Nest camera. Try restarting your Nest camera and in case the issue persists, Reset it to the factory default.

Looking forward to your reply.

Thanks,
Emerson

I’m 600 miles from the camera. Is there any way to do this remotely?

Hello Jerryc1976,

I appreciate your quick response. The only way to restart or reset your Nest camera to the factory default is to do it physically with the device. My suggestion is, if you could have someone to go there and perform the steps. In case you have an update, you know where to find us.

Thanks,

Emerson

Thanks. I'll be at that property later this month and will try a reset..... sigh...

I’ll be at the property on Fri and will try the reset this weekend.

To be clear, am I to expect that this light will NOT come on during daylight??

Hey Jerryc1976,

Thanks for getting back to us. It should work like what you expect after the reset. Don't forget to check the link I've shared above about your Nest Camera with floodlight's motion, motion sensitivity and daylight sensor settings. So before you lock it, please answer the question as opposed to “it should work like what you expect”….

Does it come on during daylight?  That’s all I’m trying to solve.

Hello Jerryc1976,

Yes it can still turn on during daylight. That's why we have an option from the Google Home app about daylight sensor. Which I included in the links I've shared above. Under the daylight sensor, you can choose when your floodlight turns on during the day. You can choose from the brighter to the Darkest settings. When you choose the brighter settings, the floodlight turns on earlier in the evening, while having the darkest settings on turns the floodlight on when it’s very dark.

Best,
Emerson

Thanks but that’s NOT my question.

I don’t set it to turn on EXCEPT for motion.

My frustration is it COMES ON when it detects motion during bright sunlight!!!

I just arrived at the property and will try a reset.

However, as I’ve said multiple times, the problem is NOT that it doesn’t come on properly.

It comes on IMPROPERLY. I only want the flood coming on due to motion and at NIGHT.

Mine is coming on I bright sunlight.

How do I stop that??

Hey Jerryc1976,

I’m sorry for the confusion here. That’s a good question. Live viewing will turn the floodlight on automatically whenever you check your camera’s live stream at night.

Here's how:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings  Settings gear > What turns on the floodlight.
  4. Tap the switch next to Live viewing to toggle it on or off.

In addition to this, you can choose when your floodlight turns on during the day. You can choose from the Brighter to the Darkest settings. When you choose the Brighter settings, the floodlight turns on earlier in the evening, while having the Darkest settings on turns the floodlight on when it’s very dark.

Let us know if that helps.

Thanks for the help here, Emerson.

Best,

JT

I don’t know how to ask the question differently.

I understand the live viewing and other settings. I have it turned OFF.

I want to completely STOP the floodlight from coming on during daylight. I NEVER want it on during the daytime.

Is that not possible?

if so, what settings do I select?

Hi there,

Uh oh! My bad. Could you click the lights on the thumbnail, turn the floodlight off then let me know if that works?

Thanks,

JT

I’ve still not heard a response to the question about keeping the light from coming on during daylight.

I have the daylight sensor set at DARKEST. I assume that’s correct?  Seems like a setting would clear it up.

Hello Jerryc1976,

Yep — you can try that or click Lights on the home screen of your Google Home app then turn off the light.

Let me know how it goes.

I guess we’re done. It seems there’s no simple way to set the light for “daylight”.

I’ll deal with the necessity to manually control but wish it was easier.
