Google Floodlight

Hi - I've seen a number of posts about the floodlight that cannot be purchased without a camera. I already have several outdoor wired cameras and just need a floodlight base so I can attach one of my cameras to.

Is there any plan by Google to offer the base light only for those customers who have a camera already that can be attached? I don't want to purchase 2nd hand from anyone. Thanks

I've not seen Google make any announcements to that effect, unfortunately. You're welcome to send this feedback directly to Google to express your interest.

Yes, but I don't see the advantage of that over a stand alone controller.

What could you possibly want other than the light to turn on/off upon presence detection, but over-ridden when there is sufficient daylight ?

Not sure I see the benefit of a Google specific stand-alone floodlight.

Could you not just install a quality 3rd party flood with a built in PIR and mount it next to (preferably just beneath) the camera.

I'm interested in this thread, as the latter suggestion is also my intention.

I like the controls you have through the home app of the Google light system versus a third party one. It's tied in better to the home controls.

Dimming function, sleep and awake function, etc

Speaking as a lighting designer of over 30 years I have never utilised dimmable lighting in an external application. Certainly not since the advent of LED tech. The energy saving of dimming LEDs being that miniscule as being unjustifiable.

As for sleep/awake, I'm unsure what you mean by that, but don't understand why you might want to put a security device to sleep and deactivate the auto feature.

I enjoy dimming outdoor lights when we are sitting downstairs enjoying the fresh air and BBQ and don't need 100% brightness. Sleep awake is useful for the lights while the camera is always watching
