Google Nest Cam battery is not viewable on Mac or cannot be added to Nest app

Cannot connect new cams to NEST app or view them on Mac.  What is the protocol to get this working?

Unfortunately, you are discovering what the rest of us customers have discovered; the new Google Nest cameras simply can NOT be accessed from the Google Nest app or at the home.nest.com website. They can only be accessed from the Google Home app, so those of us with existing cameras now have to use 2 apps.

Blogs with Google's explanation (and with significant customer reaction) can be found here:

Is it possible to use home/away when being forced to use the Google home app? I’m not happy about having to use 2 apps. Why would they do that?

Hey, everyone.

What has been said in here is correct in that the newer model cameras are not compatible with the Nest app and must be controlled via the Home app. Eventually all Nest products will go through the Home app, but to ease the transition, older models are still able to use the Nest app. While feature parity is not present between the apps yet, Home is continually being updated and the idea is that it will become the best way to manage all devices in a single place.

I understand the frustration with the changeover, but at some point products have to drop legacy apps in order to consolidate everything to one spot. If there's anything else I can do for you, please let me know.

Thanks.

I’m guessing Jeff is correct, I’m expecting the Nest App to end at some point. But I note my nest smoke detectors do not even show in the Google home app. Is there something I should be doing to get them to work in the Home app?

Bottom line.  Google buys Nest, Google has plan to use Google Home app, Google Home app has reduced capabilities because design did not address complete lifecycle...I have no problem with the plan, I have a problem with the execution...Loosing my ability to view cameras on macbook, Imac where I can see footage much better (during&after) is a big deal, loosing some of the functionality for scrolling and copying footage is a big deal.

The apps from Nest, Sonos, etc are better because they were designed with purpose to optimize that particular platform.  Google Home app means you are loosing capabilities and functionality.  Try again Google.

Hey folks,

To clarify; the Nest Secure products specifically the smoke detectors are only available in the Google Home App at this time. But thank you for all of the feedback!

Brad.

But that contradicts what I said. I can’t view my spoke detectors in the Google Home app, but I can in the nest app

@Kevin1

I do not have any information on if/when there are changes made to these Nest Secure products being available in the Google Home App. Most of the Nest Secure products have been discontinued. There is only a matter of time before changes may happen.

Best Regards,

Brad.
