Google Nest Cam

Hi all ,

I just installed my Google Nest Cam with battery in my backyard.
But if I check the cam it always says CAMERA INACTIVE , I have to press Watch Live and then it will send me alerts if it spots something moving.

I setup up a ZONE where it has to detect movement and everything is on that it has to send me an ALERT if something has been spotted.

Or is it me and does the camera never stays online ?

What am I missing here 🙂

It's not 24hr recording from the battery only. It fires up on events like movement in your zones.
you would need to run it powered to stay on all the time

@Mantala

We've had a Google Nest Camera (Battery) for almost 17 months now, plugged in with the optional power cable. It is "Live" all the time. But if we unplug it, then it goes into "Idle" mode and only "wakes up" hopefully) if it detects an event, or if we go to the camera in the Google Home app and press "Live". But the camera is still "online". That's the way Google Nest designed the battery camera when it is on battery power; the battery doorbell works the same way because it is always running on battery power even when wired.

Hey Mantala,

Sounds good! As we got our resolution here, I'm going to mark this thread as complete. I'll be locking this thread if we won't hear back from you again in 24 hours. Should that happen, feel free to create a new one if you have more questions or have other concerns in the future.

Thanks for chiming in, Archie.
