Google Nest Camera - Missing Events

Irisdjones1

Hello! I’ve had my google nest camera for almost 3 months now. After hours of searching through the community posts to see if others are experiencing the same issues I’ve been having, I can’t begin to wrap my head around why the issues have not been resolved. Paying for these cameras for some type of security and they’re not working properly is a disappointment. Why is my battery operated camera not picking up certain events? It will sometimes pick up when someone comes down my driveway but not when they leave. OR vice versa. I am sorry but I actually dislike this camera so much now.

In our experience, it seems the battery camera simply does not perform well at waking up from "Idle" mode to detect events when running on battery power. We've had a battery camera since Sept. 2021, plugged in with the optional power cable. But if we unplug it and walk directly in front of it, it does NOT wake up from "Idle" mode to detect that event.

When plugged in, our battery camera is "Live" and recording at all times. The only reason we got the battery camera is because Google Nest quit selling the wired Google Nest Outdoor Camera in Sept. 2021.

Hi everyone,

@Irisdjones1, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. Nest Cameras determine when something moves based on how much an image changes over a short period of time. So, your Nest Camera may not send an alert if the following is true:

  • The activity is out of your Nest Camera's field of view.
  • An object is blocking your Nest Camera’s view.
  • Your Nest Camera is very far away from the activity.
  • The lighting in the scene is dim or washed out.

Give this a try:

You might have to move your Nest Camera, change the angle, or change something in the scene so that you don’t miss important activity.

Let us know how it goes.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Regards,

Emerson
