Google Nest Camera wired 2nd Gen - Review - Do Not Buy

First I will say that the camera itself is decent.  The two way communication is pretty good.  The other functionality is garbage.  There is no web integration. There is no local storage.  There is no NAS integration.  The ONLY way to access the recordings (which I believe is most people's main concern), is through the Google home app.  The Google home app functionality is at best bad.  There are no options to filter.  There are no options to turn off the thumbnails (a video thumbnail in a space that small is ridiculous).  There is no option to search.  For multiple cameras, there is no option to see the history for all cameras.  There is no options to combine, merge, or manage multiple cameras. The familiar face feature is nice, and fairly accurate, but it would make it functional to use that information to allow/disallow notifications (or in any fashion), rather than just identify the face.  Then on top of that, the only way to access any recordings is through a subscription.  Not even 24 hrs. of events are accessible without a subscription.  That is bullying.

I recently purchased the cameras (4) and was using the 30 trial subscription (which was only the events recording, and did not allow sample of the 24/7 recording option).   I chatted with tech support about alternate ways of accessing the recordings.  They repeatedly tried to offer to start a paid subscription before even listening to what any issue/question may have been.  I tried downloading a clip from a previous day, and it did, but when it did, it erased (or least  it removed from being accessed) the rest of that day.  When I finally got them to listen to the issue, tech support had no idea what happened, offered no explanation, nor gave me any recourse to recoup or research, or even acknowledge that problem.  The whole purpose of the 30 day trial is to evaluate and see if it is what you want/need.  I am QUITE glad I did not spend the extra money for that garbage.

These are going directly into the trash.  This was an unfortunate $400 lesson to do a full research into a product and not rely on previous product lines and assumptions.

Unless you plan on using this device a live monitoring 2 way communication device ONLY, stay FAR AWAY
