Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) - Only lasting 1 week

Kg21

I recently purchased a Nest battery doorbell and the doorbell is only lasting 1 week on a full charge (if not less). This is with limited usage, isolated notification area, and no audio recording. Extremely disappointed as they were noted to hold charge for close to 1 month. This doorbell can’t even last for a 1 week vacation.

Hi Kg21,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I am sorry to hear that your Nest Doorbell is having battery issues. But no need to worry, I’d be happy to help you with that. Let’s check it out.

Before we get started with further troubleshooting, let me ask you some questions:

  • What Nest Doorbell model do you have? 1st Generation or 2nd Generation?
  • Did you install the Nest Doorbell on your own?
  • Did you receive any power notification in the app?
  • Did you notice or experience any power outages recently?

Potential Causes and Solutions:

Battery drains too quickly:

The battery drains faster in cold weather or if there's a lot of activity (even if the activity isn't saved as a clip).

Basic Troubleshooting:

I understand that you have improved the settings for the activity not to drain the battery. Please charge your Nest Doorbell, typically: It takes approximately five hours to fully charge the battery using a compatible 7.5W AC adapter (sold separately). If possible, keep it connected to the charger until its battery is full. Please let me know if the issue persists.

Battery Health:

  • Battery Degradation: Over time, batteries can degrade, leading to reduced capacity. Check the battery's health in the Nest app.

Usage Patterns:

  • Frequent Recordings: High activity, such as frequent recordings or live view, can drain the battery faster. Adjust settings if necessary.
  • Motion Detection Sensitivity: Reduce motion detection sensitivity if it's set too high.

Environmental Factors:

  • Temperature: Extreme temperatures can affect battery performance. Avoid exposing the doorbell to excessive heat or cold.
  • Solar Exposure: If using a solar panel, ensure it's receiving adequate sunlight.

Wi-Fi Connection:

  • A weak Wi-Fi connection can cause the camera to work harder, draining the battery. Ensure a strong signal.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Best,
