Google Nest Hello Doorbell Peeling and Flaking

Steph514

A couple of years after installing our Nest Hello doorbell it looks horrible. The finish on the black bezel is flaking off starting from all the edges. It feels like the coating the Nest chose for this purpose was not suited for long term use and fails after a few years.

There are a number of posts out there where other customers are have shared having similar issues. What’s interesting here is that after contacting customer support - Google refuses to acknowledge the defect and says that if the warranty has expired there is nothing they can do.

It feels like Google needs to take a lesson from companies like Apple and Dyson who would regularly issue recalls for products that have issues related to normal wear and tear.  If you need examples you can Google it.

I am not sure what Google is projecting as acceptable lifecycle for these products but I was expecting that more than 3 years would be the answer. Very disappointed in Google and their failure to stand behind their products.

I can only imagine how many of these otherwise functional products will begin to litter landfill as Google encourages a disposable view toward technology.

Very disappointing. And regret investing so deeply in the Nest ecosystem having already installed two Nest Thermostats and four Nest Protect smoke detectors throughout our home around the same time as we installed our doorbell.

I won’t be trusting the Google brand anymore.
