Google Nest Hello Doorbells both cracked and peeling...

Both my Nest Hello Doorbells still work, but the glass/plastic whatever clear stuff is around the camera is cracked and peeling.

The front of the house is a western exposure so there's no getting them out of the afternoon sun.

Did I miss a warning label or something in the instructions that said "do not install in southern or western exposure if sun shines there"?  Wired Doorbells really only go one or two places and I can't imagine the engineers missed this during design.

I'm in upstate NY and I feel really bad for people where it actually gets hot.

Am I stuck with both of these now, just waiting for this winter when the water gets in and freezes and the Doorbells both break?

Well, surprise surprise - Google Support's "senior specialists" just told me the warranty expired one year from some date (not sure if it was installation or purchase) and that even though the failure was caused by a design flaw, I'm stuck with them and if I want new ones, it's on my dime.
Guess I'll be switching to Ring Pro's, since they don't fall apart in the sun.  You apparently get what you pay for.  Anyone want a pair of failed doorbells and a google home hub?  Pay shipping and they're yours.

Needless to say I'll be reviewing this product where I purchased it, as well as reporting it to the BBB for not being suitable  for it's intended use (who sells a doorbell - a clearly exterior product - with the knowledge it fails when used outside and doesn't warn about it?)

I have this same problem, crazy that a doorbell that costs this much only lasts a couple years at best!

I have the same problem.  It appears that this is a common quality control problem.   I believe it is time for a class action litigation.  If one has been filed, I would gladly join.

Hi Brad - I'm having the same issue also. I purchased the Nest doorbell new alongside a full suite of Nest products (cameras, thermostat, fire alarms etc). The doorbell has been the only troublesome product and now the finish is peeling and cracking horribly. Can you help?

Thank you!

Thanks Brad, I haven't received any emails yet. Do you know what address they would have been sent from?

Well I am having the same issue I can't believe this issue is so widespread.  I tried getting help in the chat but no go because I can't find the receipt. I would think goggle would stand behind their products.

I have the same problem.  Mine looks worse than some of the images I have seen.  Now my doorbell is freezing everytime someone rings it and Google support just put me through the most insane troubleshooting using  my mutimeter, breaker box and all this nonesense just to tell me to hire a Nest Pro or electrician.  This is the most ridiculous company I have ever dealt with and its sad that they make so much they dont care a single bit

I am switching to a ring pro as well.  State law requires 1 year warranty.  That is all google provides.  Google does not care about the consumer what so ever and its embarrassing.  I have a google home and I will start to switch it all out.  Guess what though - a new sucker is born everyday and they dont care.

Just to provide a brief update from my side - as posted previously I suffered the same issues from the peeling finish to the connectivity issues as mentioned by others on here. Luckily I'm OCD and somehow found the original purchase receipt of my doorbell (purchased in store at Kohls). After an arduous 3 hour chat session with all kinds of troubleshooting, Google did send me a replacement Nest. It was a newer version (although it was refurbished). No complaints though as my purchase was 2years or more ago, but they still replaced it. I will add that this is a real issue with the product - for example my wifi range and signal was blamed for the poor connectivity....except since I've had the new doorbell I've had no connectivity issues? I've also got 8 or 9 or Nest problem and it was just the doorbell causing problems.

TLDR; if you can find original proof of purchase and show extreme patience to go through the chat support process, you'll get your doorbell replaced.

That is helpful and somewhat encouraging but what is the deal with the orginal proof of purchase.  Why should that matter?

Sorry to see that others have had the same issue I'm having. My nest doorbell looks like crap & has the same peeling & spider webbing of the laminate. I have my receipt & I paid a google installer as well. How can I get a replacement?
