Google Nest Wireless Doorbell Failed Connection/Activation

We purchased a new Google Nest Doorbell (battery). Scanned QR code. Device updated itself. Device appeared in our Home app. Tapping on the device in the Home app yields "Couldn't connect" with a "Retry" option. Retry failed. We reset the device. Trying to add the device a second time fails. Home app sees device, we can QR code, and then Home app fails to connect. We are returning Google Nest Doorbell (battery) to store, but now there is an icon for it in our "Favorites" on Home app. How do we delete this "dead" camera icon?

Update: Repeated the process (factory resetting the Google Nest Doorbell and re-initiating everything, using an iPhone with the Apple version of the Google Home app. Everything went smoothly.

After a new Doorbell was installed, it was easy to delete the two "dead" Doorbells, that had not completed the process, yet were still visible.

So, all good. That an Apple product was our salvation is Not Good . . .

Forgot to mention: When setting up, the device always got to the "Stay in the know" screen in the app, and then an "Unable to save settings" notification appeared.
