I also have a Nest Hello doorbell that is peeling and I have barely had over a year. The peeling film around the doorbell is dried and sharp enough to cut visitors when they ring the doorbell.
I have lots of money invested in google security products in my home (as others do) and I was shocked at the lack of durability of this doorbell. Why doesn't it hold up when it is meant to be outside?
I find it very unfair to have to purchase a new one since this product is so terrible. I was going to purchase more google products but considering switching companies now.

If you search for "peeling" under "Cameras and Doorbells", there are now 318 threads, and 46 for "delaminating." One of our Google Nest Hello Doorbells, 22 months old, is peeling. We resorted to a silicone cover. And the internal batteries on that Nest Hello and another have failed, so they no longer ring the internal chime.

So the solution was to spend money to repair Google's defective product? or switch products?

Yeah, our solution was to spend $12 to cover up peeling on our Nest Hello and rely on announcements on our Nest Hubs instead of the internal chime, rather than incurring the hassle and expense of switching to a different product line.
