Google Nest outdoor battery camera not compatible with Nest app

Hi there, my new Google Nest Cam (battery) does not appear in the Nest app. I can only view it, and configure it in the Google Home app. It does not save in my google account and so i can not activate the google skill for connectivity in my home device.

can you please assist as the reson for purchasing it was its great and intuitive connectivity. However 3 days in and i still can not find a way to connect it all.

the second problem i am having is that i can only get a little pop up when the alert comes in. I can not chose the sound to play (reason for purchasing it is to get an emergency sound and a big notification, enough to wake me during the night if someone is in my backyard). Can you please help me out on how to fix and do all these things?

cheers

Hi there, DV.

I am very glad to hear that you are interested in the new Nest Cam (Battery)! I can understand with the launch of these new cameras, there may be some confusion and I would love to answer your questions for you and help you the best I can! Thank you so much for bringing your questions about our new camera to our attention.

  • The new Nest Cam (battery), Nest Cam with Floodlight (wired), and Nest Cam (wired) as well as the Nest Hello (battery) are only available in the Google Home App. You are not able to add them to the Nest App.
  • When it comes to Alerts, and alert sounds, there is only 1 default tone. It would work similarly to your phone alerts except it would be the default sound.
  • As for your connectivity issues, your device may be too far away from your home's wifi connection. Make sure it is in range, or if you have other Nest products, it should be able to connect using that device.
  • If you need too, a restart should also help clear out potential issues with connectivity.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance! I look forward to your response.

Best Regards,

Brad.

I wish I knew this before I spent $179 on it.  I spent hours trying to figure it out and uninstalled and reinstalled it several times.  Pretty annoying.  You should do something about this compatibility issue soon..

Hey, all.

Sorry about the confusion and frustration you've had with app compatibility. But yes, you are correct that the new battery doorbell is not compatible with the Nest app and must be managed by the Home app. Going forward, all devices will use the Home app for management, but some legacy devices still have access to their former apps to smooth out that transition. If there's anything else I can do here, please let me know.

Thanks.

Hi Brad,

Thank you for your reply. However, the problem i am facing is not related to wifi. The fact that the camera does not connect to nest, means that it looses the capability of being discovered through the google next skill which is compatible with other home control devices like alexa and my samsung tv.

Can you please advise if there is a way around this issue?

Last, could you please confirm that even with a nest subscription i am not going to be able to change the notification settings, nor to have my phone on night mode and chose to have the notifications to still alarm me if someone is around the house?

Cheers
Deb
