My camera will notify me if it sees something but when I try to look it says it can't connect to camera and it is not recording any instances. Just says video not yet available.

Run, don’t walk, back to store and cut your losses. I have wasted thousands of dollars and part of my brain trying to work with Google from their security alarm and sensors to Google Max Hubs to doorbells and the common weak thread is GOOGLE buying Nest. I’m beating a dead horse but it’s really unfathomable that they destroyed NEST and forced us away from that perfect platform and onto the Google Nest Home 3 years ago and in all this time is STILL doesn’t work and even their new products don’t work on it. AAAUUUHHHHH…. It’s Maddening. Only reason I’ve held on so long is i have 3 house loaded with their crap so I’m out about $7K.

WiFi is the biggest issue I see with any cameras. These cameras, as well as any other brand work only as well as the client's wireless network. First, if at all possible, if you replace your router or create a mesh, try and keep the SSID and password the same as you set up before. This will save you a lot of headaches and is much easier than trying to set the Nest Cam and other devices back up. Get a really good router designed for large homes with a good CPU that can handle a large amount of traffic. There are many out there, personally, I use an Asus RT-AX86U (not S), the "U" has a quad core processor. I have many cameras, and many other devices. This router reaches my 3000Sq foot brick home easily with cameras all around the perimeter. It will mesh easily with other Asus routers, and is easy to manage. This router also handles dual bands using the same SSID better than most (can connect at 2.4 or 5 on same SSID).

The other issues (bottleneck) I see are client's broadband service. Remember, you are "serving" from your home. So, when you are connecting and trying to view "live", your camera is trying to stream TO the internet (uploading). Broadband internet services focus on high download speeds, but it is the upload bandwidth that you need to "serve" video FROM your home TO the internet. I have fiber, and my upload speed is 500mps. That is good enough for the cameras to send video event files "up" to the Nest Aware servers when an event is detected. Also good enough to stream live, should I want to see or communicate with someone at the door.

A lot of people like to blame the product, when they do not start with the right infrastructure. I have a lot of Nest Cameras, doorbells, etc. and they all have worked flawlessly for over a year. It is really worth investing a little in the right infrastructure before buying $7K in products that you cannot use (like Right1 describes)
