Google nest indoor poor battery life.

Afroman_za

I recently bought a set of Google nest indoor/outdoor battery cameras and the battery life for the one indoors is very poor. What can I do to improve it and why could this be happening?

For context my outdoor one has been on for 1 month and is currently at 50% and the indoor one needs to be recharge every other week.

I'm not crazy about battery-powered cameras; we've had a Google Nest Camera (Battery) for 18 months plugged in with the optional power cable and it's "Live" all the time.

Is there a lot of activity around your indoor camera that is causing it to wake up and record a lot?

Hi there,

Thank you for your patience, I know that keeping your Nest devices charged is very important, and I would love to help you out. When it comes to keeping your Nest Doorbell (battery) or Nest Cam (battery) up and running, here are some articles and troubleshooting guides for the best charging practices:

  • This is a great article on general charging times for your devices.
  • This helpful article tells you how to save the battery with your doorbell or camera.
  • And this last article, will go over charging expectations when you may live in a cooler/colder environment which will address charging temperatures, etc.

I hope those articles help shed some light on charging and maintaining battery levels of your Nest doorbell or camera. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best regards,

Brad

Well like I'm not sure where to begin.

The camera is currently in the living room and there is a bit of activity in that area but I have the schedule set for the camera to be off while we are home and the outdoor camera is on 24/7.

Makes no sense to be honest I feel that maybe that unit has a battery anomaly perhaps.

Both cameras have identical settings so that why I came to ask here perhaps I was missing something.

Thanks for the feedback so far

Thanks for reaching out and sharing your thoughts and concerns with us. At temperatures below freezing, the lithium-ion battery in your Google Nest camera or doorbell won’t be able to charge.

The batteries in Nest Cam (battery) and Nest Doorbell (battery) have the following minimum temperature requirements:

  • Minimum operating temperature: -4 °F (-20 °C)
  • Minimum charging temperature: 32 °F (0 °C)

At temperatures between -4 °F (-20 °C) and 32 °F (0 °C), the battery can still power your device, but it won’t charge. It may also drain more quickly than usual. At temperatures close to -4 °F (-20 °C), your battery may have less than half the life that it has in warm weather. Check out this link for more information.

Best regards,

Brad

Thanks for the input.

Unfortunately I think my issue has nothing to do with temperature I'm afraid like I stated before I think my one camera has a weaker battery compared to the other one that it came with.

Im going to swap the two around next week and see if the problem persists and if my outside camera (now inside) still has more battery life then I know the other one is faulty.

I'll keep you posted.
