Hardware acceleration in Chrome/Edge 93-94 adds pink tint to Outdoor cam streams w/ some GPUs.

Ever since around the recent Chrome/Edge 93 and 94 updates, both Chrome and Edge have a slight pink tint when viewing the streams of my Outdoor cameras directly.  This issue is NOT happening with my Nest Indoor IQ strangely enough, just the Nest Hello and the Nest Outdoor cameras.

Of note:

  • This is a recent change with the last two versions of Chrome and Edge.
  • Downgrading to Chrome 92 fixes the issue.
  • When viewing the streams from Firefox, the colors are correct.
  • When viewing the streams from the android app, the colors are correct.
  • My main computer that is experiencing this has a GTX 1070, and a hex-core i7.  Drivers are up to date.
  • When viewing the streams from my Surface with Chrome/Edge 94, with hardware acceleration turned on, the colors are correct.  It seems to be only happening with my GTX 1070 (but only 4 out of 5 cameras as mentioned).
  • Turning off Hardware Acceleration immediately fixes the issue, while re-enabling brings the tint right back.
  • When viewing the main dashboard with all camera feeds, the color is correct.
  • When clicking into a stream from the dashboard, the color is correct for a second, then the slight pink tint appears immediately after. Refreshing the page will cause the same behavior.
  • This happens both day and night, and is more noticeable during the night due to being in black and white ( now with pink tint).
  • The pink tint is only on the stream. The saved video footage colors are correct.
  • Turning off and on night vision did nothing.
  • Powering cameras off and on did nothing.
  • Changing the quality of the stream did nothing.

Here is an example, with both day and night.  Hardware Acceleration turned on is on the left, turned off is on the right.

Just of note, this only appears to be affecting the Nest streams. I have not noticed this with any other streaming service/site.

Hi there,

Sorry for my late response. Thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I just wanted to make sure that your issue is addressed. I can definitely understand how frustrating your situation must be. I would love to help you find a solution to this issue.

  • Do you still need help with this issue?

  • Is your camera very hot? Or very cold? Rapid change in temperatures can have this affect on the cams sometimes.

  • How long have you had your cameras for?

  • What troubleshooting steps have you done thus far?

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

Brad.

    Yes.

    No.

  • How long have you had your cameras for?
Oldest one is a couple years old, newest one is a couple months old.

  • What troubleshooting steps have you done thus far?
I think the amount of and types of troubleshooting I did are laid out pretty clearly in my post above.  I literally did ALL the troubleshooting for you guys. Its not an issue in Chrome/Edge 92. It is in 93/94. Its not an issue on the app. Its not an issue in Firefox.  Its not an issue when viewing the dashboards, only when viewing the direct streams. Turning off hardware acceleration fixes it in Chrome 93/94, but I didnt have to do that for previous versions.
