Hardwire vs Adding a plug?

I am about ready to buy and install the Nest Cam w/floodlight but I don't want to hire someone to run power to it.  I'm going to install this above my attached garage and connect it to the outlet where the door opener plugs in (there currently is no power above the garage).  Has anyone just simply attached a wire to it with a 3-pronged outlet at the other end and just plugged it in?  I'm assuming it's possible (?) but want to know if anyone else has done this?

I recently bought the flood light in the UK and am wondering the same. Can I plug it into a socket also what fuse size to use.
