Home Away Assist No Longer Works

Our Home Away Assist has completely failed to the point that I am about to scrap our whole Nest system. The problems seem to have started when Goggle took over and started requiring the use of the Home app. At that point my Home Away Assist still worked on the Nest app but I had to put my wife’s phone on the Home app. Using the Home app the device selection to sense home or away keeps defaulting to off for her phone. This become so annoying that I have removed my phone from the system as well and resorted to manually turning the camera on and off. Now the manual use seems to have failed as well. When I set the Home Away to home it switches back to away. Goggle bought what was a good product and has ruined it.

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. I understand that you have to use your Google Home app when adding your wife to your home however, after you add her she can still use the Nest app and select the "Sign in with Google" option on the login page and copy the settings on your own account and app so that you can use your Home and Away assist feature better. Thanks Emerson, I have resorted to disabling the Home Away Assist and turning off the camera manually when we are home and only reactivating the camera when we are away for an extended time. This isn’t convenient but I was tired of getting notification even when we were home and Home Away Assist was activated.

 

I went through settings on both our phones and everything was setup correctly. On my wife’s phone I could set it as a device to activate Home Away Assist and the next day the settings were changed. My phone worked correctly with home away assist until recently.  Now it too doesn’t work.  I gave up.

Thanks for your update? Just wanted to make sure, how many devices are your accounts signed in? While you can check whose phones are being used to help with Home/Away Assist, you can't enable or disable location for any phone except your own. Everyone else will have to change these settings on their own phone in the Nest app. Each person can only use one phone to share one phone location at a time. If you’ve already enabled phone location on one phone, enabling it on a different phone will disable it on the first phone. 
 

If you're already sharing your phone location using the Nest app, enabling it in the Home app will disable it in the Nest app. You can only use one app to share phone location at a time.
 

You can also turn off phone location in your phone’s main settings menu, but this will not only affect the accuracy of Home/Away Assist, it may change how other apps on your phone work, too. Hit this link for more information.
