How do I get my Nest Doorbell (Battery) to play a notification sound on my iPhone?

When somebody rings my new Google Nest doorbell I receive no notification besides a small alert on my iPhone. I want it to make a sound, you know, like a doorbell or something so my household knows there’s somebody at the door.

As an extension to this, I'd love to know how to get a sound alert on my phone even if I'm set to vibrate only. An override similar to the ring/find my phone command

I’m Glad I’m not the only one who finds this an issue. This seems really elementary as far as a fix goes so not sure what the hold up is. We are not the only ones asking this question. I’m having buyers remorse and wish I had gotten a ring doorbell instead now

Me too. I wouldn’t recommend Nest to anyone because of this

I came here looking for an answer to this question.  I am a former ring user and I loved that it gave me a motion audible alert AND a doorbell audible alert.  I want that now.  It does me no good to have a doorbell remotely when I am not notified when someone is there.

Exactly!  I need more than a silent notification on my phone.  If I have some type of sound alert that would be way better.

I just got the nest doorbell and really disappointed that my phone just get a notification and to a ring. The point was when I am away I can speak to the person when they ring the doorbell.  Thinking of returning this unit

I'm asking that question too.  Why can't we get a unique alert like Ring Doorbells send to their customers?  A "push notice" is not an alert!

Completely agree, the amount of times i've been out and missed a delivery because all I get on my Google Pixel is a small notification mixed in with all the other notifications I get, rather than a proper alert in the same way as if I were receiving a text or phone call. Out of interest from anyone who's had a ring, how do they send their alerts?

It's a unique ringtone, that the user picks themselves (a different one for motion and ring, if you want).  I just ordered the cheapest ring doorbell ($50) and installed it near my google doorbell.  Now I get the Ring alert to know someone is at my door, and can use my google doorbell to answer.  It works... but I should NOT have to do that!

It’s ridiculous to have two doorbells to know someone is at the door

There needs to be a setting on the iPhone where I can create a notification sound that best suits my doorbell. This is absolutely ridiculous that all I get is the default notification sound which I can barely hear when the phone is right next to me let alone when I’m in a different room and my phone is in. This needs to be addressed and fixed as soon as possible.

Same problem, dissapointed ;-[
Does google development read our threads / respond to it?

I’m extremely disappointed as well. Is there really no fix for this? The push notification is so missable! This seems like a huge oversight. Isn’t the whole point of having one of these is to not miss when someone is at your door even when you are not there?

I need an answer to this too!

Is anyone at Google (or even Apple) going to respond without pointing a finger?

I’ve returned the door bell and I’m going with Ring.

Has anyone got a fix for this yet? I want an audible ring when someone is at the door

I had to buy a Nest Hub Smart Display in order to view and hear the doorbell in my family room plus a Nest Mini to hear the doorbell in my entrance way. Approximately $150.

It will not connect to my Alexa devices which is why I had to get the Google Smart Home devices.

With Google Home installed on my iPhone, I do get notifications on it and also on my Apple watch.

Overall I was very disappointed with the lack of interoperability and the exclusion of a bluetooth speaker or chime that would be placed inside the home.

When is a doorbell not a doorbell? When it’s a Google Nest Doorbell.

Go with Ring.  It’s so much better!  And the customer service is amazing too.

Is it really not possible to have the nest doorbell ring on your smart phone? This is not a technical problem or user error? If so, I am returning this because it’s not a doorbell.

Google doorbell is part of google home. When someone rings the bell I receive a message (you know the sound) on my (i)phone. There are no specific settings for the sound of the doorbell on your iphone.  The sound of the message can not overrule the setting of sound of the phone (for specific purposes - like one of your favorite contacts calling - the settings can be overruled).
Since I use Google Doorbell the sound of my iphone is on.
When I bought google nest audio I got 2 nest mini's for free, these mini's are now used as our doorbell speaker in the house. When someone rings the bell at the Back Door it says or shouts :-] "Someone at Doorbell in Back Door".

I use iphone, ipad, 2 google doorbells, google nest audio and google nest mini (and some more google products).

Thanks for answering, but unfortunately, this still does not address the main concern most of us have. I have no problem knowing when someone is at my door when I’m inside my home, I have a Google Hub, and I hear the persistent audible announcement when some rings my doobell. It is when I am not home that I miss the doorbell as the notification is not audibly persistant on my phone. I am confused why this can’t be an option on our phones. I use an iPhone, but I believe this is still a problem on Androids as well. The Ring sounds like it may be a better fit for my needs.☹️I’m pissed I invested in Google devices/infrastructure and it can’t provide what I really needed.

Yeah as the above comment says (I own an android). The issue isn't when we are home. The issue is that if my phone is on silent/quiet. The door bell/home app has no option to override this so I get an audible alert outside the home.

As an example, if I use the "hey Google - find my phone" command on my Google home, the ring is audible, even if my phone was on silent to make sure I can find my phone. But this doesn't seem a possibility with the nest door bell.

Work around: use the app Notification Catch. Then you can set a specific sound for the Home app notification with filter word "doorbell". Just tried it, and it works on my Android phone.

Does this work on iPhone?

Anyone know of a work around for iPhone?

I came here to say the same thing and now I can see a lot of people have the same issues with the device. Just an alert on the phone that makes a sound is all I was hoping for. I imagine with Googles resources they could make an update and just fix this. Wishing I had bought a Ring instead.

Exactly!  I'm in total agreement with you.

I receive a survey about the Nest doorbell yesterday. I completed it, but doubtful it will amount to anything. I am so bummed about this door bell. ☹️

I am surprised that Google and/or Nest haven't done any upgrades or something to improve it's doorbell with all the complaints.

I agree! I went through the app and found a “feedback” section and I let them know my thoughts. I wonder if that would help if they got more feedback like that.

They have received plenty of such complaints but they haven't responded as I can tell.
