Indoor/Outdoor Cameras connecting to Google Home but not the Nest iOS app

JST7

My indoor/outdoor cameras are set up and connect to Google Home. I can view them along with my doorbell video on line on my Mac via Google Home. BUT the indoor/outdoor cameras are NOT showing up in my Nest iOS app, still just my doorbell video. If I try to add them it just takes me to the initial set-up which pushes me to Google Home to set up. Should they be showing in there if connected via Google Home?

If you’re using the Gen1 doorbell, that is compatible with the iOS Nest app. However the other cameras you have are only compatible with the Google Home app.

Compatibility with the iOS Nest app and the newer cameras was dropped in 2021.

So Only Gen 1 products are compatible. That's bs. What happens to consumers when Google decides to pull the plug on the Nest app ?

That’s the fear for many thousands of Nest app users like myself

After using 2 apps for over a year, I keep hoping that, with the two announcements below, Google Nest will move Nest app functionality for our older cameras and doorbells into the Google Home app and onto the new home.google.com website that is now available in "preview" mode:

The bigger issue to me is the availability to have a Nest Tab open on a PC

@BA35

Have you checked out https://home.google.com?  It's in a trial version but is available to us now.

Interesting, I haven't seen that

When did that roll out and will it become permanent ?

@BA35

It became live for most of us a week ago.  Beyond it being labelled "Preview", I don't know what else Google Nest is going to do with it.  I'm just glad it includes our old and new cameras.

@BA35

Thank you for your feedback on this. However, you can now use the Google Home web app to view your cameras and doorbells. The new Nest cameras and doorbell are exclusive to the home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. Thank you for your continued patience, and support.

Brad

"A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras,"

Well NO IT DOESNT. Brad. It only handles Gen 1

@BA35

A Nest Aware subscription handles both new and old cameras and doorbells that are in the same Google Nest "home/structure", but you have to use the Google Nest app to view full history for the older cameras and the Google Home app to view the history for the newer cameras. Our Gen 1 and Gen 2 cameras are covered by the same single Nest Aware Plus subscription.

Well you may say that but it isnt true, which really ticks me off. When I go into the nest app, add product and scan the QR code on a Google Nest Bam Gen 2, it immediately redirects me to download the Google home app, which I already have. Now, while all cameras and other devices I have show up in the Google Home App, Only Gen 1 cameras show up in the nest app.  I dont know where you get your information from but it is 100% false and incorrect

@BA35

Yes, I know that only our older cameras and doorbells show up in the Google Nest app (where we can see all their Nest Aware history) while our newer cameras and doorbells show up only in the Google Home app (where we can see the Nest Aware history for the newer cameras, and event history for the older cameras).

I do NOT like this 2-app approach.  We've lived with it for 14 months since we bought a newer camera and discovered it had to be installed in and worked ONLY in the Google Home app.

My only point is that a Nest Aware subscription covers both old and new cameras and doorbells (but yes, we have to go to 2 different apps to access that Nest Aware history).

Well, The NEST Aware DOESN'T cover both, how can you write that when the Gen 2 wont show up in it ??? Com'on man. One App is Nest Aware the other is Google Home. Admit it and move on.

@BA35

Sigh! Nest Aware is a "subscription", a service, NOT an app. There are two "apps", the Google Nest app and the Google Home app. The Google Nest app was once called just the "Nest app" back when we first got it in April 2019, but it has never been called the "Nest Aware app", and "Nest Aware" was a subscription when we first got a subscription in 2019 and could access the history that came with the subscription in the Nest app.

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9681538?hl=en:

"Depending on the Nest camera model, you can review event video history and 24/7 video history in the Home app or Nest app. You can also get events for all your cameras in the Home app’s Feed and home history."

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9546397?hl=en:

"Nest Aware is a paid subscription service you can use with your Nest products to help keep you informed about important events at your home."

"Nest Aware requires a working internet connection for your home, and access to the Nest app and the Home app."

It is a app as well. Just keep splitting hairs. Moderators, please shut this down. Too many dimwits here.

@BA35

Our Nest Aware Plus subscription provides 24/7 history viewable in the Google Home app for our 2nd gen Google Nest Indoor Camera and our Google Nest Camera (Battery). Unfortunately, we have to go to the separate Google Nest app (or the home.nest.com website) to view 24/7 history provided by that same Nest Aware Plus subscription for all of our older Google Nest cameras and doorbells.

P.S., terminology aside, I think we're on the same page. I posted this back in September 2021:

Hi there,

Thank you to @MplsCustomer for sharing the correct information regarding Nest Aware and how it covers all your devices under a single subscription, even if you have devices that may be showing in the Nest app and the Google Home app. Please let me know if you have further questions or concerns.

Best regards,

Brad
