Indoor chime won’t ring on new installation

I just installed front and backdoor 2nd gen wireless doorbells. After a number of troubleshooting issues (builder switched front and rear wires). Everything is working except the chime.

1) I replaced the transformer with a 16VAC 30 VA unit and it puts out 18 VAC at the chime box
2) the doorbells are NOT in quiet mode

3) I’ve tried many options of the electronic chime delay (on/off 1/3/10 seconds) with no impact

4) the chime is probably 20 years old and is the model the wants a diode on the front doorbell. When I installed the diode the doorbell went offline and the chime still didn’t work.

   Only thing I can think that is left is to replace the chime box (it doesn’t have any model on it, but it is electronic). Any other thoughts out there?

@John65

I'm not familiar with a doorbell chime that requires a "diode" on one of the doorbells. You could try replacing the chime, but also be aware that other customers have reported problems with the "chime puck" that comes with the new 2nd Gen Google Nest Doorbell:

Thanks for the link.  I tried removing the 2-wire pucks and that didn’t help.  The doorbells went offline and had the low voltage yellow lights on them.  Re-attached the pucks and the doorbells worked again, but still no chime.
thanks

@John65

That would seem to mean your "chime pucks" are working, so it could be your doorbell chime, but I don't know much about doorbell chimes. We have a mechanical chime I installed about 30 years ago.

Thanks for the response. I think I’ll just get a mechanical chime and give it a try.

Happy New Years to you!

I installed a new mechanical chime and all is working correctly now.

Hi folks,

Glad to hear that installing a new mechanical chime resolved the issue. As we got our resolution here, I'm going to mark this thread as complete. I'll be locking this thread if we won't hear back from you again in 24 hours. Should that happen, feel free to create a new one if you have more questions or have other concerns in the future.

Thanks for the help here, MplsCustomer.

Best,

JT
