Low battery on hardwired nest doorbell

Nest battery doorbell plugged in but low battery

Hi all,

I have a battery powered nest doorbell that I've plugged in. It's been working well since May when I plugged it in. Today, I got a low battery warning and I'm not seeing video anymore. 

When I check the doorbell in the home app, it shows 2% but says plugged in. 

I live in Canada and it's been around freezing point the last week. Why would the battery be low and almost drained if it's plugged in?
