Manage camera settings

Stefan_S

Hi all,

I just bought a Nest Cam Indoor Gen 2. I want to use it as a babycam for our newborn.

I dont understand how I can receive notifications from the camera on my phone (via the Home App). I have tried everything. Now what I dont understand is if you can receive notifcations without subscribing to Nest Aware? So notifications like "there is movement" or "there is sound" or "there is a dog". Can I receive these notifications without a Nest Aware subscribtion?

Also when I look up tutorials on the internet, it says to go in the Home App, open Settings and then change the like notifications you would like to receive. But I dont see these options in my app. Everything is turned on, but I dont get the part which lets me choose what kind of notifications I would like to receieve (so Sound, Movement or Dog ...).

Hope its clear and hope someone can help,

Grtz,

Stefan

Yes, we have Nest Aware Plus. But I don't know why you're not seeing any notification options on your Notification screen. It seems that you should, given Google Nest's documentation saying without Nest Aware you get event video history for the last 3 hours: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9233159#zippy=%2Cnest-cam-wired-nest-cam-battery-nest-c... and https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9681538

If you select your camera, select Settings, select Video, and then select Video History, what do you see? For us, there's a "No video history" option (unselected), and because we have Nest Aware Plus, our other options are "60-day event video history" and "60-day event and 10-day 24/7 video history". For us, the last option is selected. In your case, with no Nest Aware, is there some sort of 3-hour event video history option you need to select in order to trigger capturing events?

If that doesn't solve it, unless another customer has a suggestion, you might need to contact Google Nest Support (https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp?hl=en). Perhaps your camera is defective.

Hmmmm, that sounds odd.  Those options should be there and from my understanding it should work like you want it to without the subscription.

Try opening an official support ticket with Google and get help from one of their techs.  Here is the link to start the process....

Are you going into Settings on the initial screen for the Google Home app, or are you selecting the camera first, and then selecting Settings? It should be the latter, where you can then go into Notifications under General and Events under Device Features to set up notifications for your camera. (We have the same camera.)

Yes the later way is how I do it. In the screen it gives me 2 options 1. Push notifications 2. Only receive notes when im gone...but in all the tutorials i read there should be a bottom part where i can specify what kind of notes i would like to receive...and that part is not there.

Futhermore, when increate a "focusarea" it says that notes are off...but i cant turn them on either.

Im a bit confused haha

@Stefan_S

Have you gone into the Events option and configured notifications there?  We went there first, set up zones (it seems from your comment that the Android version calls these "focusareas") and notifications, and they now show up under the Notifications option.  It's confusing the way this configuration is spread across two options.

Correct, to be clear I have done the following:

  • 1. Set the camera on (duh haha)
  • 2. Go to Events
  • 3. Created a Zone
  • 4. Then go to Notes
  • 5. I select the Zone i would like to receive notes from.
  • 6. I see a view of the Zone and below it says Your notes in this Zone. Your supposed to manage what notes you would like receive. But there is nothing there...

I'm puzzled by what you're seeing. I'm just another customer and don't know if the Google Home app is significantly different on an Android phone. We have one of the newer indoor Nest Cams and we're using iOS on an iPhone. We don't have any zones created. Attached are two screen shots showing what we see under Seen Events, and then one screen shot showing what we see under Notifications.

We have Nest Aware Plus, but it seems these settings SHOULD apply to events captured within the last 3 hours if you do NOT have a Nest Aware subscription.

So first do you have Nest Aware? I don't believe it is necessary to set these notes but just checking.

Second, on the last screenshot i only have the upper to options...there are no option below to specify what i would like to receive a note from.

Ps i tested it on my android phone AND on my gf's iphone. Both didnt work.

Ps2 thnx for helping! Really appreciate it.
