Motion Notifications on Nest Hub

Hi there, we are currently trialing the use of a Nest Doorbell (battery) with the main draw card being the integration of Nest Hubs.

However we are quite disappointed as coming from previously using a Ring Doorbell, we assumed Nest Doorbell would allow motion notifications to be at least broadcasted as a sound to the Nest devices in the household. Would be even better if the Nest Hub gave the option to view the camera if motion was detected, but having at least sound would achieve feature parity with the Ring doorbell

The lack of this ability is seriously having us consider going back to the Ring Doorbell, as we want to be aware of motion detection regardless of having our mobile devices with us at the time and doesn't seem to be an unreasonable feature to ask for.

Is there plans for this feature to be supported by Nest Doorbells?
Happy to hang around for it if its coming in the near future, however if its not on the roadmap, reluctantly may have to switch back to Ring 😥

Thanks for posting in our Community. I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with this. Let’s check it out.

What type of Nest Hub do you have? Are the Nest doorbell and the Nest Hub added to the same Home structure?

You can turn on Motion Alerts for the Nest doorbell in the Home app. Follow this guide (see "Home app notifications" section): Camera and doorbell alerts.

Also, make sure to turn on notifications for the Nest display.

It has NEVER been possible to get people or motion alerts on our Nest Hubs from any of our Google Nest cameras or doorbells.

The "Camera and doorbell alerts" link you provided (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9210305) describes how to configure notifications that go to our phones and mobile devices, and to email (for cameras and doorbells installed in the Google Nest app).

The "Turn Nest displays notifications on or off" link you provided (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7550525) describes now to turn on notifications like reminders.  It does NOT include camera alerts.

The sending of alerts for doorbell presses to our Nest Hubs is configured separately, via "Visitor announcements" (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7672451).

Hi Lance, yes it seems MplsCustomer’s response is correct, the link you had provided is for enabling notifications specifically on mobile devices.

I would like people and motion alerts enabled on the nest hub which I would of expected to be configurable underneath "Visitor announcements" however that just seems to enable notification when someone has rung the doorbell only.
