Need better control of Nest Doorbell Announcements

TimG

I hadn't intended my very first post to be a mini-rant, but as a newcomer to the Nest ecosystem -- and mostly loving it so far -- I felt smacked in the face by a few key "omissions" on Google's part with regard to Doorbell behavior.

To wit:

  • I'm astonished that the only way to govern WHERE Doorbell Announcements get made is either EVERYWHERE (all connected devices in same Home), or by crippling individual devices (using "Do Not Disturb", which has other ramifications), or by placing the Doorbell on its own Home setup (which, frankly, is ludicrous);
  • I'm truly disappointed that you cannot select the Volume at which Announcements play;
  • I'm momentarily confused as to why Announcements still say "Someone is at the door" when I've already identified the person's face with a name (had assumed the name would be spoken instead of 'Someone');

All this means my senior parent IMMEDIATELY requested that the doorbell STOP MAKING ANY NOISE because they have no control over how loud it will sound -- e.g. while/after listening to music on volume 8, having the Announcements come at the same loud volume out of the blue is unsettling. And I agree with them!!

Finally, having just joined this Nest Community (thanks for being here!), I must say it's rather disingenuous that questions -- such as this one -- seem to be getting marked as "Solved" by well-intentioned moderators whose only contribution is to say, "Gee, sorry, you're right. That is a completely missing feature. I'll close this thread now."

Nest products kick ass IMHO, and certainly are an improvement over Ring competitors. Yet the latter have completely customizable location/volume/time of day controls per doorbell. Nest needs to step up here and fast.
