Does Nest Aware for Nest Cam Indoor Wired 2nd generation allow you to add dog barking to "sound and heard" events to register?

MY PURPOSE: To keep a diary of when my dogs bark, time, how long etc..

My old DropCam used to register sound as well as visuals.
Can someone either tell me how to do this with the Google Nest Cam Indoor...?
OR let me know that this product is NOT for me?

If it can't then could you RECOMMEND a device that registers sound events of my choosing. Mainly barking.

Thanks,

Shelley

@ey24

Unfortunately, the 2nd gen Google Nest cameras that get installed in the Google Home app only have the option to report sounds from smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

Thank you. This is unfortunate as I have no need for the camera otherwise.

Do you know of any other Google product that me provide me these lost feature of recording the barking?
It seems that I can't revert back to my trusty DropCam thru Nest until it is permanently discontinued next spring. 😢

@ey24

The 1st gen Google Nest Indoor Camera, the 1st gen Google Nest Outdoor Camera, and the 1st gen Google Nest Indoor and Outdoor Cameras that get installed in the Google Nest app all have the ability to detect barking dogs via the Google Nest app, but you can only get them new or used on secondary markets like Amazon and Etsy.

However, a few customers on this forum seem to have had issues buying a new 1st gen Google Nest camera that has been on the shelf somewhere for years and has an old firmware version that cannot be updated by the current version of the Google Nest app. I'm not sure that's actually the cause, because the posts in this forum don't indicate a resolution.

@MplsCustomer  Thank you again so much. Of any community I've been on over the years, you have offered the most clear and useful reply.

I will look into these further. Also, I still have my DropCam Pro camera that curiously won't reconnect to wifi after I removed it on the "fateful" night of Nov 1 when all this started* – and the nightmare of migrated the subscription (something you probably have read in other chains to cancel my old history and resubscribe to new).  I have been working with a live Google support person, who doesn't seem to be getting the support he needs when escalating the difficulties. 🙁

PLAN OF ACTION for today.

  • Continue to try to get my DropCam Pro connected and recognized again.
  • Email my google support contact, to see if he can help at all (i.e., maybe even halt them from cancelling my Nest subscription so I can use the DropCam  until Google will discontinue it permanently on April 8, 2024.)

What a nightmare! (What possessed me to migrate and upgrade camera before the very last moment, which is what I usually do.)

Wish me luck and thanks again!
Shelley

p.s. one thing is that I got a live Google support  person who has stuck with me, including the fact that on Nov 3, I was out of town, until we repicked up the issues last Wednesday.

@EmersonB  Thanks for your reply. My case was actually about another issue and is now resolved. Do I need to enter a new case that refers specifically to this?

Anyhow, the issue is I need to prepare for Apr 8, 2024 when the DropCam Pro is discontinued. I need to have a way to record "sound events" (their time and duration).  That is what the DropCam Pro working with Nest app do for me now. (my new camera and the Home app wont' do this).

It would be best that I provide a screenshot of the "events" visual summary and the continuous view that DropCam Pro supplies but for some reason it's not letting me upload a photo.

Can you advise about my request without a photo for reference?

Thanks, Shelley

@EmersonB  my login was malfunctioning.
Here is what I want to attain, or something equivalent to registering sound events, the time they occur and the duration.
(Is there a Google Camera and App that will do this moving forward? fingers crossed the answer is yes)

Hi ey24,

I appreciate your update and we're glad that your previous issue is resolved now. The sound event detection is not available as well as the timestamps and we don't have any news to share about applying these features to the Google Home app. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback. I'd suggest you send yours with our Send Feedback form to let the Google Engineering team know about your concern. While they won't respond directly back to you, this is the best way to let them know about this.

Best,

Emerson

@EmersonB   Thank you!  and will do.
One would figure there are others out there who would also appreciate these feature being reintroduced.

  • It has proved very valuable in my dog training to ascertain what and when the triggers to barking occurs. (TMI. We can then set up simulated situations to help condition and build their confidence, so when left they aren't stimulated to barking.)
  • Gosh, there may be so many other applications...

    Thanks again.
