Nest Cam Audio Turned On After Being Turned Off

Community Member

Our camera audio was disabled by me so that no audio was recorded in the room it was placed; it seems to be spontaneously turning itself back ON as I checked a few hours later and the audio recording was enabled again, despite me clearly turning it off a few hours before.
Is this something that would be done automatically through an update (audio being enabled again), or is this something another user who has access to the device through the shared home network would have to manually turn back on.

Is there a history of the device setting changes?

I do not know whether a Google Nest update would turn audio recording back on, but that does not seem likely. Anyone in your Google Nest "household" can update camera settings, and Google Nest does not keep any history of changes to settings.

However, we've never turned off audio recording, so I have no idea whether there are any bugs with this setting.

Hi missbeetoo,

I’m sorry to hear that your Nest camera isn’t working properly. Let’s check it out.

A few questions: what type of Nest cameras do you have? Do you have an iOS or Android device? Does the issue occur on multiple mobile devices or cameras? Do you have any family members added to the home structure? Also, are you using the Google Home or the Nest app?

I appreciate your help, MplsCustomer.
