Nest Cam Indoor camera

I cannot figure out for the life of me how to set the camera to be active when we are away and off when home, other than manually.  I even tried tech support and they were not able to tell me.  The setting for the home app is very confusing and disappointing.

Hi PAH,

 

I’m sorry for the trouble setting up your Home/Away Assist. I appreciate your efforts here. 

 

To set up Home & Away Routines for the first time:

  1. Open the Google Home app > tap Set up Home & Away Routines.
  2. Tap Home or Away.
  3. Select the devices and settings you want the Routines to adjust.
  4. (Optional) Select the devices you want to use to determine if someone's home.
  5. (Optional) Set up your phone's location to be used for presence sensing.
    • You'll need to enter your home address and confirm it by placing a pin on a map.

I don’t have the option of the “Home and Away routines” on the home page of the app. I have set up the sensing, but it is not work with my camera. Still frustrated.

Are you looking in the Nest App or the Google Home app? The instructions that JT shared are for the Google Home app. We will need confirmation of which app you are using, so we can assist you further.

Hello PAH,

  

We appreciate you taking your time posting here your update. Try following the steps below.
 

To allow the home structure to use phone locations:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Select Presence Sensing> enable> Allow this home to use phone locations.
  • Once enabled, the Home app shows all devices allowed to set the home structure’s status. 
  • If there’s an issue with a customer’s location status, they can manually change their current location to Home or Away under the name of their phone. This helps improve the device presence sensing.
