Nest Cam Timezone

RAC
Community Member

Hi - If I look at the 'Last Contact' on my new Nest Cam (battery) it varies by exactly 1hr if viewed on my Pixel 6 v Chromebook.

Any tips are most welcome.

Regards RAC

Hi RAC,

Thanks for posting here in the community. To know more about this, could you tell us what exactly you mean by last contact? What are you trying to accomplish about this? Could you share with us the troubleshooting steps you've done so far?

Keep us posted.

Regards,
Emerson

Hello RAC,

How's it going with your Nest camera? We would appreciate it if you could share with us the information I'm asking above. So that we could take a closer look and assist you further.

Thanks for your message Emerson.

'Last Contact' is the last time that the cameras were online.

The time shouldn't vary based on what device you are using to check so it should be identical regardless.

I assume it's a time zone setting on the device you are using to check but I am not clear on how to change this as the time zone on both devices looks correct.

Hey RAC,

Thanks for giving us a heads up! Let’s further check this —  a few questions: does your phone have a pending software update? Do you have the latest version of the Google Home app? When did the issue start? Also, what country are you located in?

Going over the steps here might help:

Step 1: Verify the device’s Date and Time settings are correct and automatically set.

  1. Settings > General > Date and Time.
  2. Tap Set Automatically > toggle it off and then back on.
  3. Make sure that the timezone, date, and time are correct.

Step 2: Confirm that the Nest has permissions to use your phone's location.

  1. Settings > Apps > Nest > Permissions.
  2. Set Location to Allow all the time.home

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for the help here, Emerson.

Thanks JT I appreciate your help here!

I am based in Melbourne Australia.

Both my Pixel 6 and Chromebook have the correct time zone settings. (The Pixel 6 was the device incorrectly showing the wrong 'last contact' time)

I can't seem to find the Nest app you describe in Step 2 below -

Step 2: Confirm that the Nest has permissions to use your phone's location.

Settings > Apps > Nest > Permissions.

Set Location to Allow all the time.home

However I think it's now the 'Home' app and that has the permissions you suggest above.

Many regards

Rob

Hi there,

Gotcha — thanks for trying. Quick question: which device has the correct time zone (phone or chromebook)?

Thanks,

JT

Apologies as I thought I replied! My Chromebook has the correct 'last contact' time. I now can't reproduce the issue as the Nest Camera's are working as expected!
