Nest Camera Loading Issues

Nestuser0007

We’ve been having nothing but issues with Nest cameras at my mother in laws. I even went as far to bring a working one from my house to hers/ had to migrate it to the Google home app but aside from that it’s identical. At my home, where it works fine, it’s -70 dBm. At the house with issues with all her cams it’s -53dBm. It also has random disconnects / loading issues at her house. The camera I brought is called Camera, Driveway 2

Does anyone have any suggestions? She's on iOS  and running Google Home 3.35.53

Hi @Nestuser0007,

Thanks for posting in the community forum. I understand you're experiencing connection issues with the Nest Camera at your mother-in-law's house because it randomly disconnects and takes a long time to load the video. I appreciate the detailed information shared. Don't worry, let's work together to get this fixed. To better assist you, I have a few questions for you:

  • What type of Nest Camera do you have? Please visit the following article to find the model: Technical specs for Nest cameras and doorbells.
  • How far is the camera from the router?
  • Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near your Nest Camera that could cause interference?
  • Do other devices connected to the same network experience slow internet speeds?
  • What Wi-Fi frequency band do you have your Nest Camera connected to (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz)?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps so far?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Regards,
Jonathan

  • What type of Nest Camera do you have? Please visit the following article to find the model: Technical specs for Nest cameras and doorbells.
    • Nest Cam 1st Gen (2018)
  • How far is the camera from the router?
    • About 10 feet. Some brick but also a window. You can see the -58dBm
  • Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near your Nest Camera that could cause interference?
    • Not from my scanning/testing
  • Do other devices connected to the same network experience slow internet speeds?
    • No just the nest cams
  • What Wi-Fi frequency band do you have your Nest Camera connected to (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz)?
    • Dedicated 2.4GHz-only network
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps so far?
    • Brought a camera that was working perfectly at my house on a 2.4GHz network (almost identical setup) to her house, migrated it over to Google Home to work on my mother in laws system.
    • Made a dedicated 2.4GHz network for the cameras
    • Scanned for interference several times at different hours
    • Switched iPhones, ISP's and Routers
    • Set DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
    • Checked other devices and no issues
    • Factory reset the closest AP several times
    • Tried different band widths on the AP (20, 40MHz)
    • Have seen them appearing as offline in the Google Home app but still ping-able and visible on the UniFi network
