Nest Camera's Offline

RAC
Community Member

Hi all!

Hope you are all well - first time poster here! I have installed 3 Nest Camera's (Battery) and all was working well until I left our unoccupied holiday house which is about 2 hours from home. However the 2 Camera's closest to the router are now showing "device offline" (and the furthest one is working perfectly). Then hours later their status changed to "Camera Idle" and I thought they'd started working but quickly changed to "Can't reach this camera" when I went to view the "Live Video"

Any suggestions?

Regards Rob

Hey there,

Thank you for bringing up the concern you're experiencing, I would love to look into this further for you. The first troubleshooting step that I'd recommend would be to restart your device. This process should keep all your settings, and reconnect it to the same Wi-Fi network. This is helpful if it ever freezes, has connection problems, or isn't working normally.

Best regards,
Brad

Thanks for your message Brad. When I returned to investigate the camera's went back online when they sensed my movement which was positive.

However I wasn't convinced that the issue was resolved so I made 2 changes.

1) Turned off band steering on the router and connected the cameras to only the 2.4ghz WiFi signal (so the 5ghz was disabled)

2) Turned off a Wireless Driveway & Entry PIR Alert Kit that was on a Wireless Frequency of 433.92MHz

The issue seems to have been resolved as it hasn't reoccurred.

Hey RAC,

Awesome, sounds great! We appreciate your time sharing the Community steps that resolved the issue of your camera being offline — it's a big help. As we got our resolution here, I'm going to mark this thread as resolved. I'll be locking this thread if we won't hear back from you again in 24 hours. Should that happen, feel free to create a new one if you have more questions or have other concerns in the future.

Thanks for the help, Brad.

Best,
