Nest Cameras Wrong Time

JoshB21
Community Member

I have several Nest Cameras (floodlight, battery outdoor and indoor) all of which display the wrong time for recorded events. Searching in the forum, there appears to have been a setting in the Google Home app to fix this but is no longer available in latest version. Seems illogical there’s not a simple solution since all the devices are connected via wifi and easy to synch date/time. Will Google be pushing out a fix?

Hi JoshB21,

Thanks for posting in the community!

I'm so sorry to hear that your Nest cameras are not showing the correct time zone. No worries; I'm here to help! I just wanted to confirm this information with you. Are you talking about the timestamp on the video footage? If so, this feature is currently only available for cameras set up through the Nest app.

If you're experiencing an incorrect timestamp on the video footage, please try these steps:

  • Settings > General > Date and Time.
  • Tap Set Automatically, toggle it off, and then back on.
  • Make sure that the time zone, date, and time are correct.

I hope this helps! If you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.

Hi Nery,

thank you for the response.  Unfortunately all the cameras are newer so only compatible / had to be setup in the Google Home app.  We do have an older generation Nest Doorbell which has the accurate time for events.  But the Google cameras timestamps for video events are all off by 1hr (probably daylight savings spring forward, fall back seasonal adjustment). I’m assuming the Google Home app does not have a similar time adjustment function as does the Nest app?

Hi JoshB21,

Thanks for getting back to me!

I'm curious about something you mentioned. You said that the timestamp of your Nest Doorbell (wired) has an accurate time for events/recordings. But the timestamps for the newest Nest camera are off by one hour.

To clarify, are you currently participating in the Public Preview for the Google Home app?

Timestamps aren't typically available for Nest cameras set up through the Google Home app, as you can see in the article Nest video clip timestamp. If you feel comfortable sharing a picture of the timestamp, that'd be great!

In the meantime, if you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.

Hi Nery,

Don't believe I'm participating in the "Public Preview" for Google Home app.  To clarify, in the Nest App, the Nest Doorbell time stamps for events are correct.  However, in the Google Home app, the same Nest Doorbell event has the wrong time stamp (1hr earlier).  For example, the postman dropped our mail off today at 12:46p ET, Nest App has correct timestamp (12:46p) but same event in the Google Home app has an 11:46am ET timestamp.  The Nest Doorbell was originally setup using the Nest App (believe it was prior or around the time Google acquired Nest so hadn't been converted over yet).

Hopefully this helps / makes sense.

Best, Josh

Hi JoshB21,

Thanks for the additional details!

There are more things we can check to isolate this situation:

  • App Permissions: Make sure the Google Home app has location permissions enabled on your phone.
  • Test on Another Device: Download the Google Home app on a tablet or laptop and see if the timestamps are correct there.
  • Web Interface: Check the timestamps on the Nest devices through the web interface at https://goo.gle/2UZL8VI

I hope this helps! If you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.
