Nest Doorbell Pushing Too Many (Wrong) Notifications

RonA

Nest Doorbell is sending "motion" notifications when setting is set to "off".  A flag and street traffic in the range of the camera is sending these notifications dozens of times a day.  I am looking for a way to limit notifications to people only.

Model: Nest Doorbell (wired)
Software: 4110054

On iPhone, Nest app (version 5.69.0):
- Notification Type (Push)
- When to send (Always)
- Activity People (On)
- Activity Motion (Off)
- Activity Sound (Off)

On iPhone, Google Home app:
- Similar settings do not exist

On home.nest.com webpage:
- Push notification (On)
- When to send (Always)
- Sound (Off)
- Motion (Off)
- People (On)

.

Is "Motion" de-selected in all of your activity zones (including "Out of zone")?

@RonA

Is "Motion" de-selected in all of your activity zones (including "Out of zone")?

MplsCustomer,

Thanks for trying to assist.

Since I am not using Nest Aware, I have not setup any activity zones.

Interesting development.  Today's videos are all type "person" or "sound".  None are "motion".  However this is basically the same issue as I have "sound" notifications set to off.

Why has the status of this thread set to "accepted solution"?  How did that happen?

@RonA

Since I'm automatically a watcher after commenting on this thread, I received an email saying "RonA" had marked my comments a solution. Since this was clearly inadvertent (accidentally clicking the Solution button instead of the Reply button), I think you can unmark it.

I cannot tell why you are getting notifications for events you haven't selected. On each of our iPhones, we only get notifications for event types that have been selected on each phone.  For example, if I'm expecting a delivery, I turn on notifications for People and I start getting notifications.

I wonder if it would help if you reset your doorbell by briefly turning off the power to your Google Nest Hello Doorbell (for example, by turning off the circuit breaker for the circuit that includes the doorbell).

There does not seem to be a way to rescind the marking of a message as a solution.  The issue still exists but I doubt this thread will get any additional replies. I might open an new message thread.

Thanks MplsCustomer for your assistance.

Hi folks!

Thanks for your help here, MplsCustomer.

Thanks for trying and for sharing your thoughts about this. I can understand that you'd only like to receive notifications from a person. Without a Nest aware subscription your Nest Hello doorbell can only detect basic motion and sound. These motions can be a person, sound and all other motions(vehicles, pets, etc).

If you don’t have a Nest Aware subscription, the Nest app displays snapshots of activity spotted by your camera over the last few hours. If you choose to turn off activity history, your camera won't capture snapshots and all your existing snapshots will be deleted.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,

JT

JT, thanks for your feedback.

I'd like to point out that this (needing a Nest Aware subscription) is not the first thing I learned from this forum (a positive) but it is also something I have never seen elsewhere, such as in Nest documentation (a negative). I do not understand why Google/Nest does not make such information more readily available.

As just another customer, I am skeptical that the lack of a Nest Aware subscription could cause "Motion" notifications when the "Motion" notification setting is turned off.

MplsCustomer,  good point and I agree.  I'm not in the mindset to call this "resolved".
