Nest Doorbell - Ring Indoor Greyed out

Hazel_Voss
Community Member

Hello! I had my Nest Doorbell, which is battery operated, in my old home. When someone rang it, all my Google speakers would ring and tell me who was at the door. Now, it only has push notifications to each mobile device in the home. The doorbell rings outside, but no longer inside. When going in the Home app I can see that the option is greyed out. How can I fix this? The device is fully charged and works fine other than that. Also, I have the Neat Aware subscription . Thank you, kindly, for your help. 🙏🏼

@Hazel_Voss

The "Indoor chime" option is automatically grayed out and disabled for the battery doorbell if is NOT wired to an indoor doorbell chime and transformer (or if is wired but the voltage is insufficient, per these requirements: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9247132?hl=en).

However, you can separately turn on "Visitor announcements" (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7672451?hl=en) to get visitor announcements sent to your Nest Hubs, Nest Minis, and Nest speakers.

I have seen a few postings from some customers with battery doorbells reporting that "Visitor announcements" aren't working even when they're enabled, but I haven't seen any answers or explanations.

I don’t even see an option to connect the indoor chime to my other google devices.

I'm hoping to figure this out too...when I purchased the nest doorbell (battery) I thought the alert would pop up on phones and ping through other Google devices in the home (Hub Max, Google mini, etc). How the heck are my aging parents going to know someone is at the door if their phone isn't on them? That's a massive design flaw.

@ALDNP

Do you have "Visitor announcements" turned on and it's not working?

Got it... working now, but still a bit disappointed that the "ring" volume is whatever the device is set at. A default louder, attention-getting notification would be perfect - kinda like when a TV switches to commercial and it's 10 times louder than the programming.

Thank you… yes I have it turned on.  I can’t get the bell/ ringer to connect to any of the speakers inside the house.   We still cannot hear a ringer when the push the button outside.  The cellphone app alerts my phone but not my mother when she is alone in the home.  Any other suggestions?

@ERNurseNessa

If you have "Visitor announcements" turned on for your Google Nest doorbell in the Google Nest app or the Google Home app (depending on the doorbell), and if your Nest Hub(s), Nest Mini(s), and Nest speaker(s) are in the same Google Nest "home/structure" on the same Google Account, then you SHOULD get visitor announcements on each of the speaker devices that are NOT set to "Do not disturb".

That must be the issue.  I don’t see the nest mini in my google home app.   I will try to add it and see if that fixes it.  Thank you!

I still don’t have a ring/ bell/ chime inside the home.  It only alerts my cellphone app.

I feel silly.  I am not able to get the mini to connect to my google home account.  It shows that it is available to link but I just can’t get the ringer to work and we cannot hear the doorbell chime.  Do you think it would be Benedict to just purchase another mini to link it?  I can’t link it to the large home speaker either.

Hello there,

I know how you feel about this. Could you remove your Nest Mini from the Google Home app, then add it to the home structure your doorbell is connected to?

Keep us posted.

Thanks,
