Nest Doorbell Wired

Purplekat
Community Member

First of all, there is not a selection for wired doorbell. We have a wired doorbell and it will not announce recognized faces when they come up the walk. It only says someone at your front door. Another issue is that we installed a camera in the back yard and all it says is someone at your front door. Yes, it says the same thing so we have no idea if it is front door or back door.

Help!

Hmmm, just to be sure in the setting for the doorbell do you see the setting that says  "Foamier Face Detection" and is it turned ON?

Other than that I think your next step is to talk to an actual Google Nest Tech.  Here is the link to open a tech and get connected to a tech...

If they get it going please return here and let us know what the problem was.

For the front door / back door thing, can you confirm you named the camera "back door" and it's room is "back yard" or something similar?

The nest does not announce names(at least for me In Canada) but does show them in the app and on nest displays .  More information is here, have you enabled familiar face detection?

Yes, they are listed in separate rooms. The app shows then where they should be but only announces the front door for both locations.

I'm pretty sure the facial recognition only works if you have the Nest Aware Subscription.  Do you have that?

Yes, we have the subscription. It still doesn't say recognized names. And the camera doorbell is a battery style with wires to the existing door bell.

I have not talked to the tech yet. I have decided to let my husband do that. I just want you all to know that my announcements still say someone is at your front door for both the doorbell and the backyard camera. Google should be better at this. And getting help should be easier.

@Purplekat

The camera needs to learn who they are. If you have Familiar Faces with your Nest Aware subscription, unless the person is a saved familiar face, it will not announce who they are and will state there is a person. It is a smart learning system, but it is not perfect. The feedback given here will help! Thank you for sharing your feedback with us.

Brad

I have not received a fix for the issue. Both cameras still say "someone at the front door" and one of the cameras is in the back.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your help, @EmptyNester, @Ashepherdson, @Brad and @Steve.

We're sorry to hear about your experience as well as for the delayed response. I also understand how you feel so I want to check this further. Is the people notification in your Nest app settings on? When did the issue start? Also, does it detect the notification for a person within 10 feet?

Try the troubleshooting steps here:

  1. Open the Nest app Nest app.
  2. Tap Settings Nest settings icon.
  3. Choose Notifications.
  4. Select your camera.
  5. Tap People to turn people notifications on or off. Make sure to turn on familiar face detection in the Home app or Nest app.

You may also check this article for your troubleshooting guide.

Let us know if that helps.

Best,

JT

It's me again. I want to make sure you're all good — how did the steps go?

They did not work. I have not received a fix for the issue. Both cameras still say "someone at the front door" and one of the cameras is in the back.

Hey there,

I am terribly sorry to hear that you're having this issue with your Nest camera! I'm sure it's frustrating but I'm happy to look into this and see how we can help out. The first troubleshooting step that I'd recommend would be to Restart your device. By doing this, it should keep all your settings, and reconnect it to the same Wi-Fi network. This is helpful if it ever freezes, has connection problems, or isn't working normally.

Best regards,
Brad
